Job Description

  • An Ophthalmic Technician plays a vital role in eye care, assisting ophthalmologists and optometrists in diagnosing and treating eye conditions.

Job Summary

  • An Ophthalmic Technician in Eye Foundation Hospital provides essential support to ophthalmologists and optometrists by performing a variety of technical and administrative tasks.
  • They conduct preliminary eye exams, perform diagnostic tests, assist in eye surgeries, and maintain patient records.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Interaction:

  • Greet patients and obtain their medical history.
  • Explain procedures and answer patient questions.
  • Prepare patients for eye examinations by conducting initial tests.

Diagnostic Testing:

  • Conduct visual acuity tests.
  • Measure intraocular pressure using tonometry.
  • Perform refraction tests to determine prescription strength.
  • Conduct visual field tests, corneal topography, and other diagnostic imaging.

Clinical Assistance:

  • Assist ophthalmologists during eye examinations and minor surgical procedures.
  • Administer eye drops or medications as directed by the physician.
  • Sterilize and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain and update patient records accurately.
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage patient flow.
  • Order and inventory medical supplies.

Education and Guidance:

  • Educate patients on proper eye care and the use of prescribed treatments or medications.
  • Provide guidance on contact lens use and care.

Qualifications
Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited ophthalmic technician program preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) is desirable.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a clinical or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Experience with ophthalmic equipment and procedures is a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and medical software.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift and move medical equipment as needed.
