Procedure for Registration of Environmental Health Service Providers in Nigeria

Environmental Health Officers (Registration etc.) Act No. 11 of 2002 (As Amended) established the Council to register Environmental Health Officers and regulate Environmental Health Practice in Nigeria. In exercise of the Powers vested on the Council by the enabling legislation and the need to set minimum National standards for Environmental Health Practice, the following Service providers whose services are part of Environmental Health Practice are required to register with the Council. They are Waste collection, Public Health Pest control, Cleaning Services, Sewage collection, Sanitary Inspection of Premises, Air Quality Management/Noise pollution Control Services, Health, Safety and Environment Services, Resource Recovery Services, Environmental Health Laboratory Services, Waste Recycling services, Laundry Services, Waste Disposal Facility, Health Care Waste Management, Sea and Air vessels Cleaning

Services, Health Impact Assessment, Motor Vehicle Cleaning, Public Health Chemicals sales and Radiation Control Services.

 

i) Requirement for Registration

These include  

(i) Evidence of Incorporation with the Corporate Affairs Commission

(ii) Evidence of Three years’ Tax clearance  

(iii) Evidence of Retainership of a Licensed Environmental Health Officer  

(iv) Evidence of Ownership of relevant Equipment and Machinery  

(v) Evidence of Registration with the National Pension Commission

(vi) Evidence of Registration with the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund  

(vii) Evidence of Registration with the Bureau for Public Procurement  

(viii) Evidence of Registration with the Industrial Training Fund  

(ix) Evidence of Membership in relevant Professional Association(s)  

(x) Submission of Duly Completed Application form.

ii) Processing of Application  

Upon receipt of a duly completed Registration Application Form, the Council shall assign a Licensed Environmental Health Officer to inspect the Applicant’s Facilities, Manpower and Equipment to confirm the information provided in the Application form. Furthermore, the Report from the Inspector will be reviewed to ascertain the findings and recommendations therefrom preparatory to conveying the decision of Council to the Applicant. Thereafter, a successful Company shall be issued with a Letter of Registration.

It should be noted that a Company can hold Registration in more than one Practice Area so long as it meets the minimum requirement in every Area of interest.
