Job Summary

  • We are seeking a committed and clinically skilled Registered Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality nursing care to all patients, ensuring duties are appropriately delegated and junior staff are effectively supervised.
  • Conduct thorough assessments for assigned patient groups and all new admissions, ensuring accurate documentation and timely updates.
  • Implement, monitor, and evaluate individualised care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and relevant external agencies.
  • Provide personal nursing care, including washing, bathing, dressing, and the use of clinical equipment such as hoists, catheters, subcutaneous infusion devices, wound-care materials, and pressure-relief systems.
  • Administer psychotropic and other prescribed medications, monitor effects, document observations, and educate patients on medication use and compliance.
  • Provide crisis intervention during acute psychological or behavioural episodes.
  • Orient newly admitted patients to the facility’s rules, principles, and expectations, ensuring understanding and adherence.
  • Ensure all required admission documents are thoroughly completed and signed by patients and relatives where applicable.
  • Support physicians during physical examinations; obtain medical, psychiatric, social, and family histories; and collect necessary specimens for laboratory investigations.
  • Conduct daily observations to identify, interpret, and document physical and emotional status, including high-risk behaviours such as suicidality or aggression.
  • Perform and interpret Urine Drug Tests for all patients when required and ensure proper documentation.
  • Maintain accurate patient counts during every handover and takeover shift.
  • Inspect patient rooms daily to ensure cleanliness and proper use of facilities (lights, air conditioning, etc.).
  • Ensure vital signs are taken twice daily and recorded accurately.
  • Work closely with support workers to ensure patient hygiene, comfort, and environmental cleanliness, especially during morning routines.
  • Coordinate with kitchen and support staff to maintain dining area hygiene and appropriate food handling, including inspecting meals before delivery.
  • Participate in clinical presentations, multidisciplinary meetings, and business meetings.
  • Assist in scheduling special tests, developing discharge plans, maintaining detailed charts/logs, and performing clinical procedures such as catheterisations, enemas, and blood draws.
  • Act as shift Team Leader on a rotational basis, overseeing workload distribution and supervising students, junior nurses, mental health technicians, and support staff.
  • Facilitate patient access to community resources and aftercare services to support recovery and reintegration.
  • Engage with private medical facilities, courts, and governmental agencies where necessary, including testifying in court on a patient’s condition.
  • Provide in-home or community-based nursing services when required as part of the patient’s treatment plan.
  • Assist in the pickup and safe transportation of new or returning clients when needed.
  • Ensure protected mealtimes are strictly adhered to within the unit.
  • Dispense take-home medication for patients proceeding on weekend leave, ensuring accuracy and proper counselling.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) with a valid license to practice.
  • Experience in mental health, addiction treatment, or a similar clinical environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong assessment, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-coordination abilities.
  • Compassionate, patient-centred approach to care.
