Redeemer’s Health Village Launches Robotic Surgery in Nigeria, Targets Reduced Medical Tourism

Redemption City, Ogun State — Redeemer’s Health Village (RHV) has officially kicked off robotic assisted surgical procedures at its facility in Redemption City, marking a major breakthrough in Nigeria's minimally invasive healthcare delivery. The inaugural procedure was completed successfully, with the patient expected to be discharged within 24 hours.

The initiative is part of a strategic collaboration between RHV a 300 bed multispecialty hospital established by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and RoboMed Global, a team of US trained Nigerian specialists.

Expanding Advanced Surgical Options

According to Dr. Adedamola Dada, Chief Executive Officer of RHV, the hospital is scheduled to perform six to seven robotic assisted procedures over the coming week. These complex interventions will cover conditions such as:

  • Prostate cancer
  • Kidney cancer
  • Uterine and colorectal cancers
  • Congenital kidney deformities

The lead operating surgeon and CEO of RoboMed Global, Prof. Ekwenna Davies, emphasized that robotic systems enhance surgical precision, allow smaller incisions, reduce blood loss, lower infection risks, and drastically shorten hospital stays compared to conventional open surgeries.

Cutting Costs and Building Local Capacity

A core objective of the partnership is to make cutting edge medical care accessible locally and reverse medical flight abroad. RHV aims to offer these complex procedures at significantly lower costs than facilities in Europe or the US, or traditional overseas travel alternatives.

Beyond clinical operations, RHV is launching a Robotic Surgery Academy. The structured training program will target surgeons, nurses, biomedical engineers, and product specialists to build a sustainable local talent pool.

"For us, it's not just about bringing in a machine for a single demonstration," said Prof. Davies. "It is about building human capacity so Nigeria can sustain advanced robotic care independently."
