The Management of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City, invites applications from interested and suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Chief Medical Director (CMD), which will soon become vacant.
Position: Chief Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer
Eligibility Criteria:
Interested candidates must meet the following requirements:
- 1. Must be a Medical or Dental Practitioner registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) with a minimum of twelve (12) years post-graduation experience.
- 2. Must hold a valid and current Practicing License issued by the MDCN.
- 3. Must be a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or the West African Postgraduate Medical College (or equivalent) as recognized by the MDCN.
- 4. Must have been a Consultant for at least five (5) years.
- 5. Must be medically fit (supporting evidence required).
- 6. Must possess a record of good character and integrity.
- 7. Evidence of involvement in Medical Research is an added advantage.
- 8. Additional administrative qualifications and experience are desirable.
- 9. Knowledge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is advantageous.
- 10. Evidence of research grants or funding obtained individually is also an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Chief Medical Director is the Head and Chief Executive Officer of the hospital. The CMD reports to the Board of Management and the Coordinating Minister of Health & Social Welfare.
- The CMD is responsible for policy implementation and the overall management of the hospital’s daily operations.
Salary and Allowances:
The salary and other benefits are in line with the Public Service Salary Structure applicable to this position.

Candidates must also include a vision statement (not exceeding 1000 words) outlining their goals for the Hospital over the next four (4) years.
The curriculum vitae should contain the names and addresses of three referees, one of whom must be a Senior Medical or Dental Practitioner with at least twenty (20) years post-qualification experience. The referees should be able to vouch for the candidate’s clinical, administrative, and leadership competence as well as character. Recommendation letters from the referees must accompany the application.
