The Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, Dr Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, said on Wednesday that the state had recorded five new cases of COVID-19. Yaya-Kolade said the new cases were two health workers and three others already receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti.

The commissioner, who spoke in Ado Ekiti during the Update by the COVID-19 Task Force, said the new cases were discovered during the contact tracing of a woman who tested positive for the pandemic at the health facility. The commissioner said, “The two health workers are asymptomatic for now, but we will continue to treat them.

“The state government is currently disinfecting the isolation centre again to keep the centre free of the virus and keep the place very safe for the people,” Yaya-Kolade said. Her information counterpart, Muyiwa Olumilua, urged Ekiti residents to ensure that they did not violate the protocols in view of the relaxation of the lockdown, saying such was necessary to check the spread of COVID-19 in the state and as well prevent community transmission.
