University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State Admission into Academic and Professional Postgraduate Programmes for 2021/2022 Academic Session

Applications are invited from qualified candidates for admission into the Postgraduate (Diploma and Degree) Programmes of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo in the 2021/2022 Academic Session. 

AVAILABLE PROGRAMMES 

1. Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences 

i. Anatomy: MSc. MPhil, PhD 

ii. Physiology: MSc, MPhil, PhD 

iii. Biochemistry: MSc, MPhil, PhD 

PhD Biochemistry with the following options 

a) Nutritional Biochemistry 

b) Industrial Biochemistry 

c) Enzymology 

d) Medical and Clinical Biochemistry 

e) Environmental/Toxicological Biochemistry 

2. School of Public Health 

i. Public Health: PGDPH, MPH, MSc, MPhil, DrPH, DICH, PhDPH 

Master in Public Health (MPH) specializes under the following options: 

a. Epidemiology & Biostatistics 

b. Health Policy and Management (HPSM) 

c. Environmental & Occupational Health 

d. Population, Family & Reproductive Health 

e. Health Promotion & Behavioural Sciences 

3. Faculty of Sciences Biological Sciences: 

a) Molecular Biology (Molecular Parasitology/ Genetics and Biotechnology):MSc, MPhil, PhD 

b) Environmental Biology and Toxicology MSc, MPhil, PhD

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

Candidates for admission to higher degree programmes shall be graduates of UNIMED or other Universities/Institutions recognized by the Senate. Admission shall be made by the Postgraduate School on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Postgraduate Committees. 

Candidates should be prepared for a Test of Proficiency in English Language and/or Interview/ Subject Test as may be indicated by the Faculty/Department running the programmes. 

Postgraduate Programmes In Anatomy. 

i. Master of Science (M.Sc.) An applicant for admission into the M.Sc. degree programme shall be a graduate of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), or any other approved University recognized by the UNIMED Senate, and with an honours* degree in Anatomy, or Medical/Clinical/Allied Health courses (based on a satisfactory transcript). 

ii. Master of Philosophy (M.PhiL) An applicant for admission to Master of Philosophy must be a holder of Master of Science degree in Anatomy. Candidates who are not UNIMED graduate may be required to satisfy the Department requirement for admission via an interview/examination or both. 

iii. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Applicants for this programme should be: Holders of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degree with a research thesis in any of the areas of specialization stated above. Holders of a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Anatomy. 

Postgraduate Programmes In Biochemistry. 

i. M.Sc. Biochemistry (Eighteen calendar mouths) Bachelor degree in Biochemistry with at least a second class lower division; or MBBS/BDS degrees with evidence of special bias for Biochemistry (at least a 'B' grade in Biochemistry in the Part 1 MBBS/BDS professional exams) 

ii. M.Phil. Biochemistry (One calendar year).  Graduates of M.Sc. Biochemistry program but without a Ph.D. grade. 

iii. Ph.D. Biochemistry Ph.D. Biochemistry (Four calendar years)

This is for graduates of M.Sc. Biochemistry with Ph.D. grade or M.Phil. in Biochemistry degree holders. Postgraduate Programmes in Physiology. 

i. Master of Science (MSc.) 

a. Candidates with first degree in Physiology or Medical Clinical/Allied Health courses (based on a satisfactory transcript) with at least a second class (lower division) from UNIMED or in any other approved University. 

b. Candidates with Professional qualification in Medicine (MB;BS), Dentistry (BDS)or Veterinary Medicine (DVM) are also eligible 

ii. Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) 

Candidates who possess a Master's degree in Physiology of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo or equivalent qualification in other Universities recognized by Senate; each case being considered on merit. iii. Doctor of Phiksophy (Ph.D.) 

a. Candidates for admission to the programme shall be either: Those pursing the M.Sc. programme of the Department who at the end of formal course work attain a PhD grade in the M.Sc. degree programme in Physiology of the UNIMED or from other reputable Universities. 

b. Candidates for the M.Phil. Degree programme of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo who have satisfied the course requirements for the degree and had been permitted by Senate to upgrade their registration on the basis of satisfactory progress in research. 

Postgraduate programmes in Public Health. 

i. PGD Public Health (One calendar year). Bachelor degree in disciplines not necessarily health related with a minimum of lower credit; currently involved in active public health or related practice with at least 3 years' experience. Relevant HND (with a minimum of lower credit) and equivalent recognized professionally qualified certificates with a minimum of 3 years working experience may be admitted on their own merit 

ii. MPH/MSc Public Health Programmes (One calendar year). Graduates of medical and health-focused disciplines who are on relevant professional registers; Holders of PGDPH or its equivalent or Graduates of Allied Health Sciences with a minimum of second class lower Master in Public Health (MPH).

iii. MPhil Public Health (One calendar year) Graduates of MPH/MScPH programmes without a PhD grade or Holders of the Part 1 of the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College or West African College of Physicians in Public Health 

iv. DrPH I DrCH degree (Three calendar years) Clinically qualified (Medical and Nursing) graduates with an MPH degree of PhD grade or MPhil in Public Health; or Holders of the Part 11 of the Fellowship of NPMCN or WACP in Community Health or other clinical discipline 

v. PhD Public Health Degree (Three calendar years) Holders of MPH or MScPH degree with PhD grade; MPhil in Public Health; or Holders of Part II Fellowship (or Part I with an MPH/MScPH) of NPMCN or WACP Community Health Fellows may be exempted from selected course-works based on their prior fellowship training and specialty 

Postgraduate Programmes in Biological Sciences

i. M.Sc. Molecular Biology / Environmental Toxicology (Eighteen calendar months) Bachelor degree in any Biological Sciences/Biomedical Sciences with at least a second class Iowa division. 

ii. M.Phil. Molecular Biology / Environmental Toxicology (One calendar year). Graduates of M.Sc. Molecular Biology / Environmental Toxicology programme without a Ph.D. grade. 

iii Ph.D. Molecular Biology / Environmental Toxicology (Minimum of three calendar years) This is for graduates of M.Sc. Molecular Biology I Environmental Toxicology with Ph.D. grade or M.Phil in this area of specialization.
