The West African College of Surgeons (WACS) announces the commencement of online registration for Fedruary/April 2025 examination in the Faculties of Anaesthesia, Dental Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ORL), Orthopaedics, Radiology and Surgery. All applicants are advised to Visit the College website on www.wacscoac.org and fellow the step-by-step procedure for online applications.
The Primary examinations will hold on Friday 28" February, 2025 in nine (9) centres as follows:

- Banjul, The Gambia
- Buea, Cameroon

- Freetown, Sierra Leone

Primary examinations for ail Facuities shall be by Computer Based Test (CBT). Further information on the venues of the CBT will be announced later via www.wacscoac.org
REQUIREMENTS FOR PRIMARY EXAMINATIONS
- MBBS/ BDS certificate from a recognized university.
- Full registration certificate with the Medical and Dental Council of your country (Receipt of payment for full registration, provisional registration or annual practising license is NOT acceptable}.
- Certification page (to be downloaded from the website, filled, and submitted online)
- Evidence of a change of name (where applicable).
DIPLOMA IN ANAESTHESIA EXAMINATION CENTRES

REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA IN ANAESTHESIA
{Diploma in Anaesthesia multiple choice examinations shall be by Computer Based Test (CBT) which will be held on Friday, 25th April 2025.
- Completion of the requisite twelve (12) months of training in Anaesthesia in an accredited institution.
- Certificate of attendance of relevant update course (Compulsory)
- LOGBOOK / PORTFOLIO to be uploaded on the portal, (No hard copy is needed at the Secretariat).
- Certification page (to be downloaded from the website, filled out, and submitted online).
- Evidence of a change of name (where applicable).
MEMBERSHIP CBT EXAMINATION (GROUP A)
The Membership CBT examinations in the faculties of Anaesthesia, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Radiology & Surgery will be held on Friday 26" February 2025 In nine (9) centres as follows:

MEMBERSHIP CLINICAL EXAMINATION CENTRES
ALL Membership essay papers will be held on Saturday 26th April 2025. The clinical examinations will hold between Monday 28” April - Friday 2~ May 2025 in the following centres
- National Hospital /University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria.
- Korte-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH)Acera, Ghana.
- University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria.

REQUIREMENT FOR MEMBERSHIP EXAMINATIONS
- Primary examination statement of result of the West African College of Surgeons or its equivalent with an exemption certificate.
- Satisfactory completed appropriate years of postgraduate training as prescribed by the relevant Faculty in the institution (s) accredited for the purpose of the College.
- The Original Certificate of Training (COT) form and authentication forms must reflect the current examination year, including the training commencement and completion dates, and be uploaded to the website. No hard copies should be submitted to the College.
- All LOGBOOK should be uploaded on the portal,
- Evidence of registration as a Surgeon in Training (S.1.T)
- Authentication form to be downloaded from the website, filled with proper endorsement from Fellows and Head of Department and uploaded on the website.
- Certificates of attendance of relevant revision courses/updates.
- Evidence of change of name (where applicable)
Note that the essay papers and clinical examinations for Membership will be held in Abuja, Accra, Enugu, and Ibadan centres. However, he Enugu Centre will host clinical examinations in the Faculty of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Surgery only.
FELLOWSHIP (FINAL) EXAMINATION CENTRES
The final Fellowship CBT examinations in the facilities of Orthopaedics, Radiology & Surgery will be held on Friday 25° April 2025. The essay examinations will be conducted on Saturday 26th April 2025. The Clinical is scheduled to be held from Monday 28” April to Friday 2“ May 2025 In the following centres

- Kore Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH)Accra, Ghana
- University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria
- Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Enugu, Nigeria. (Obstetrics & Gynaecology Only).
- All Fellowship multiple choice examinations shall be by Computer Based Test (CBT)
REQUIREMENTS FOR FELLOWSHIP(FINAL) EXAMINATIONS
- Evidence of passing the Membership/Part | examinations of the West African College of Surgeons.
- Candidates are permitted to upload the letters of notification (statement of result) of passing the Membership / Part 1 Examination in lieu of the certificates.
- Note that essay papers & clinical examinations for Fellowship will be held in Abuja, Accra, & Ibadan centres only.
- Satisfactorily completed appropriate years of postgraduate training and worked in their specialities for at least two years in the institution(s) accredited for the purpose by the College.
- Original Certificates of Training (COT) form with dates of commencement and completion of training are to be uploaded on the website, which must reflect 2025.
- LOGBOOK should be uploaded on the College website, except for the faculty of Dental surgery which requires both a soft copy and hard copy of the logbook.
- Certificates of attendance at the Manuscript Writing Workshop and Health Management and Ethics Workshop.
- Authentication form to be downloaded from the website, filled with proper endorsement from Fellows and Head of Department and uploaded on the website.
- Certificates of attendance of relevant revision courses/updates.
- Enugu Centre will host Fellowship examinations in the Faculty of Obstetrics & Gynaecology only.
Only candidates who submit dissertations in October 2024 and have been cleared by their assessors need to apply for April 2025, having fulfilled all other requirements. Any candidate whose dissertation is rejected will have to apply for the October 2025 examination. An exception to this rule is candidates that were referred at the October 2024 fellowship examination in dissertations who are expected to submit their corrected dissertations before the close of application?
POST FELLOWSHIP CERTIFICATES
- Assisted Reproductive Technology
- Urogynaecology
- Gynaecological Endoscopy.
This applies to Fellows who have successfully completed the 1-year training program and have been approved by the training coordinator to sit for the examination.
EXAMINATION FEES
- Primary Examination - $150 or N90,000 or GHC 1,800
- Diploma in Anaesthesia (DA) - $325 or N195,000 or GHC 3,900
- Membership examination - $425 or N255,000 or GHC 5,100
- Fellowship (Final) examination - $625 or N375,000 or GHC 7,500
- Post Fellowship examination - $750 or N450,000 or GHC 9,000
MODE OF PAYMENT
Payment for all aspects of the examinations should be made online either in Naira, Dollars (US) or Cedis (GHA). Details of all approved currencies can be accessed on the College Portal. No payment Telier shall be accepted by the College. Any candidate who does not follow this instruction shall be disqualified and examination fees forfeited.
Deferment of examination after submission of application or refund of examination fees after payment would not be entertained.
CLOSING DATE
- Submission of application closes on Friday 31st January 2025.
- ALL FELLOWSHIP CANDIDATES that plan to sit for the OCTOBER 2025 final Fellowship examinations are to submit dissertations (all faculties) and casebooks (O&G only}, as well as a choice of examination centres. latest on Wednesday 30°April 2025 via the designated faculty-based email addresses below.
The subject should read Surname with other initials and DISSERTATION & PROPOSAL FOR OCTOBER 2025 EXAMS for example DR. DAKUM EMILOKAN EJIOFOR: DISSERTATION & PROPOSAL (OCTOBER 2025) No hard copy of Dissertation, Proposal & Cashbook will be accepted by the Colleges.

GENERAL INFORMATION
- Candidates are advised to carefully populate appropriate ficids meant for surname and other names as you want it to appear on your certificate; any error that arises from this may lead to candidates disqualification.
- The courier-enabled address should be written in place of the contact Address.
- The College website is the only veritable medium by which eligible candidates' first and approved Timetable will be published. Therefore, candidates should check the College website for the approved first of eligible candidates and the examination timetable a month before the examination and should not solely rely on the automated approval slip received.
- The College reserves the right to change the candidate's examination venue at any time it deems necessary. All applications are expected to be executed online; NO hard copy of any document should be submitted to the college.
Note on deferment: Doferment of examination after submission of application or refund of examination fees after payment would not be entertained.
