The Nursing Leadership Summit is a bold attempt to bring past and present nursing leaders in politics, practice, administration and academia from within and outside the country to a round table of discussion with the inferable future of the profession (the students) in a bid to engender a more forward looking, progressive and united nursing profession in the overriding interest of the good citizens of Nigeria and West African sub-region. The summit is born out of a shared understanding and need for a rethink of the missing links of Nursing in Nigeria.

 

The Student convention would accommodate three distinct Nursing student associations, namely West African Nursing Student Association (WANSA), Nigerian Universities Nursing Students’ association (NUNSA) and National Association of Nigerian Students Nurses, Midwives (NANSNM). NANSMN comprises of all nursing student in over 160 Schools of Nrsing, NUNSA represents the interest of University Nursing students in about 27 universities offering Nursing degree programs while WANSA articulates the interest of Nursing students in all Anglophone and Fracophone countries in West Africa. 

 

 

The trios of WANSA, NUNSA, and NANSNM will be having their students’ conventions jointly for the first time in history. This first of all puts the demographic progression of student attendance at between 2500 and 3500 participants which will make it the largest gathering of Nursing students at any single location on the continent ever. Beyond this landmark gathering, is a more altruistic objective of ceasing the opportunity to have frank reviews, debates and discussions on the future of the health and wellbeing of Africans as regards its Health sectors and the Nursing perspectives.
