INTRODUCTION 
The Centre for Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (COHSE) is one of the Centres in the Institute of Petroleum Studies, IPS, Uniport. The Centre runs two Professional M.Sc&Ph.Dprogrammesin Occupational Health & Safety' (OHS) and M.Sc. &Ph.D in Environmental Technology & Management (ETM). Our Post-graduate programmes are industry-driven; more of an entrepreneurial programme. Twenty percent (20%) of lectures are taught by industry professionals with cognate experience and qualifications; 60% by the University of Port Harcourt, and 20% by collaborating University Professors (Nation-wide) in the relevant specializations. We are running the programmes in collaboration with the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) as well as International Certifying body like National Registry of Environmental Professionals (NREP, USA). 
Quality education and achievement of excellence are our watch words. 
AIM/OBJECTIVE 
Our aim is to provide graduates with broad based training required as experts in industrial safety and environmental management in Petroleum, Power, Chemical, Transport and allied industries. 
ADMISISION REQUIREMENTS 
 For admission into any of the two MSc programmes, candidates must possess a 2nd class (Upper Division) Honours Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering .. Industry/Company worker with minimum of 3 years cognate experience who possesses a 2nd class (Lower Division) Honours degree (with Cumulative Grade Point Average, CGPA of 3.0 or better) will also be admitted. Requirement for Ph.D admission is MSc degree with CGPAof 4.00 out of 5.00 in OHS or ETM. 
PROGRAMME DURATION 
The programme duration for MSc full-time option is 12 calendar months and part-time/weekend option is a minimum of 24 calendar months. 
Two options are available in part-time: Option-1, industry/company workers attend modular/sandwich courses during their annual leave periods and accumulate credits; while in Option-2, courses are taught only on weekends to accumulate credits, that will lead to graduation on completion of programme. The PhD programmes: full-time option, a minimum of 24 calendar months; and part-time option for a minimum of 36 calendar months. 
STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMME 
The programme structure for full time option comprises few modules, divided into courses. Each course is taught for 40 hours per week; with continuous assessments and examination. In addition to course work, we have group projects; internship in the industry for practical experience and research work that runs concurrently with internship (only for MSc). No internship requirement for PhD programme. However, the part-time options reflect minor adjustments. 
AWARD OF DEGREE
Successful students at the end of the programme shall receive an MSc or PhD in Occupational Health and Safety or MSc or PhD in Environmental Technology and Management of the University of Port Harcourt.
