Admission Procedure for Basic Nursing Programme - September, 2014.
This is to inform intereted candidates wishing to seek admission into FCT School of Nursing Gwagwalada, Abuja for BASIC NURSING PROGRAMME that admission forms are now on sale at Room 080, FCT Health and Human Services Services Secretariat, Nursing Department, Area 11 Garki, Abuja.
The school admits candidates for two different programmes yearly. The 3 years Basic Nursing Programme Which starts in September, is meant for secondary school leavers, while the 18 months Post Basic Nursing Programme which commences in March is meant for quaalified Midives. Application foms are advertised and purchased at a precribed at a prescribed fee and candidates who fulfill the Nursing and Midifery Council entry requirements are invited for an entrance examination and oral interview which is organized and conducted by the HHSS/Nursing department. Candidates who gain the desired entry points from the aforementioned assessment are selected for admission into the programme(s)
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
The Basic General Nurse Training is a General Nursing course open to young males and females of not less than 17,5 years of age, at the time of admission.
ENTRY QUALIFICATION
(a) Holder of WASC or its Equivalent with at least 5 credits passes including English, mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than 2 sittings. WASSC, G.C.E, S.S.C.E or NECO result should not exceed 10 years from the date of issuance from the examination body.
POST BASIC NURSING 
(a) The post basic Nurse Training is open to Registered Midwives. They should posses the registered Midwife certificate and current practicing License from N&MCN in addition to the basic entry requirements stipulated for the basic training programme.
b. Other entry requirements for admision include certain categories of persons authorized by the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria to spend a specified length of time in an approved Training School in Nigeria before regitration (Foreign Students)
PERIOD OF INTAKE 
Intake into the Basic Nursing Training programme is September of every year and March for the Post Basic Nursing Programme.
Entrance exmination is as follows; June for Basic Nursing and December for Post Basic. Successsful candidates go through oral interview at dates fixed by the appropriate panel set up for this purpose
DURATION OF THE COURSE
a. For Basic Nursing programme the successful candidates undergo three years of training
b. For Post Basic Nursing programme, the successful candidates undergo 18 months of training.
c. Other categories are as recommended by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
TRANSFER STUDENTS
Transfer of students from other Schools of Nursing is nor acceptable
STUDENT SPONSORSHIP
Students are self sponsored but presently the FCTA gives a monthly allowance to students on the Basic Nursing Programme. The stipend will automatically cease after the release of the N&MCN Final Qualifying Examination results.
VERIFICATION OF RESULT
All the results presented by students on admission will be verfied on admission by the school.
Registration and School Fees
Registration of new students usually last for a month from the day of resumption. On the first day of registration students are expected to show evidence of payment of school fees as stipulated in the admission. When collecting admission letters students are made to sign an undertaking which will be placed in their personal files as well as present the original of their credentials during the remaining weeks of training booklet, examination and stationeries, N&MCN exam registration days expire as defaulters will be ejected at the expiration of the last day for the exercise.
No students will be registered with a name different from the name he/she gained admission with, unless substantial evidence has been forwarded to and approved by the Principal.
All students are required to complete forms given to them. The approved training Regulations and Hostel Regulation Froms must be thoroughly read and understood and the students must append their signature indicating their acceptance of all the contents therein. A compulsory medical fitnesss examination must be carried out in government approved health centre or Generl Hospital on each student. The result must be submitted to the school and come along with a medical fitness certificate and chest X-ray film.
An orientation programme is organized by the 2nd week of the registration process. It lasts for weeks and all students (new) are expected to attend compulsorily. During the orientation exercise, the Principal introduces formally the entires teaching staff and other key officers to the new students; for the purpose of familiarization and offer of advices to be of good behavior.
Note that subsequent payments of school fees are made during the course of the training; Basic Nurse Students in the month of March annually and Post Basic Nurse students in the month of November annually.

of N5,000.00 (Five Thousand Naira) only from Aso Savings & Loans Plc, Gimbia Street, Area 11, Garki - Abuja. Candidates are to pay into account No. 0010514485.
Completed forms are to be returned to the Principal, FCT School of Nursing, Gwagwalada, Abuja on or before 13th June, 2014
ENTRY QUALIFICATION: Eligible candidates should possess WAEC, GCE, or NECO with at least FIVE CREDIT passes including English Language, Mathematices, Physics, Chemistry, Biology at not more than two sitting. All results presented should nor be more than 10 years since obtained  from the examination body.
