Ahmadu Bello University Collaboration with Federal Ministry of Health And Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Announces the 2015 Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program for the award of:
(a)MPH in Field Epidemiology,
(b)MPH in Vetinary Epidemiology &
(c) MPH in Labouratory Epidemiology and Management.
Program Objectives To:
1. Introduction:
The Nigeria Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (NFELTP) is a two year in-service training program in Field Epidemiology Practice, Veterinary Epidemiology Pract ice or Laboratory Epidemiology.
Practice. The N FEL TP was created to serve as a long-term continuing program within the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD). It trains Field Epidemiologists, Public Health Laboratorians, and Veterinary Epidemiologists for leadership positions in various levels of both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture. The trainees provide epidemiological services to the FMOH, State Ministries of Health (SMOH), FMARD and the State Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development (SMARD), during the training through long-term field placements. The program is sponsored by the FMOH and FMARD with technical support provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Program Objectives To: * Strengthen capacity to respond to public health emergencies such as outbreaks, epidemics, natural disasters, and emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
* Strengthen capacity for the coordination and priority health intervention programs.
* Strengthen public health and veterinary surveillance systems
* Strengthen laboratory capacity and participation in surveillance and field investigation Strengthen the linkage between public health and veterinary epidemiology
* Conduct research activities on priority public health problems Improve communications and networking within the country and throughout the region on public health issues .
Eligibility
The NFELTP will focus on training persons who are or will become field epidemiology leaders at federal, state and LGA levels.
A. Candidates interested in the MPl:i Field Epidemiology Practice course should have at least
* MBBS/M.B.Ch.B, BDS degrees with certification from the Medical and Dental Council of Niger fa (MDCN)
* Two years working experience in a related government positior (with evidence of confirmation)
* Recommendation from the Head of Department! Ministry
* Candidates working I willing to work in HIV/AIDs proqramme will have an added advantage
* Credit in atleast five O Level Subject including English and Mathematics
B. Candidates interested in the MPH Public Health Laboratory Epidemiology Practice course should have at least a
B.Sc degree (with a minimum of second class upper division) in microbiology or relevant subjects.
* Registration and Licensing from relevant National council is an added advantage
* Have a minimum of two years working experience in a government laboratory (with evidence of.confirmation).
* Recommendation from the serving Ministry/Department/parastatal
* Candidates working I willing to work in HIV/AIDs programme will have an added advantage
* Credit in atleast five O Level Subject including English and Mathematics
B. Candidates interested in the MPH Public Health Laboratory Epidemiology Practice course should have at least a .
(C) Candidates interested in the MPH Veterinary Epidemiology Practice Course should have at least a
* DVM degree with certification from' Veterinary Council of Nigeria.
* Two years working experience within the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development or other relevant State Ministries, Parastatals with evidence of confirmation.
* Recommendation from ministry or parastatal.
2 Acceptability requirement:
i. All candidates must satisfy the matriculation requirements of the University of Ibadan (including required credits in English '0' level exams) may check the University website for further details
ii. Individuals accepted to the NFELTP will be required to sign a contract committing them to remain in government service for a minimum offive years following graduation.
Application Procedure
The application procedures and form will be available on the web site of the Post-Graduate School, Ahmadu Bello University at a fee of N10,000.00. In addition, a fee of N 500.00 will be charged for English proficiency test. Application procedure will open as from Thursday 22nd October, 2015. The deadline for submission of applications is Monday 23rd November 2015.

Examination and Interview Process
Selected qualified candidates will be invited for an enrollment examination. Successful candidates will be interviewed by the FELTP Selection Committee for final recommendation.
During the Interview each candidate will be expected to appear with copies of his/her relevant credentials. In addition, each candidate will be expected to submit his/her academic transcript, formal statement of atleast 250 words explaining the candidates educational and Careers objectives and how these objectives Corresponds with NFELTP Authorization/Recommendation From The applicants employer and photocopies of Relievant Credentials
Selection Committee for Sponsorship
A formal selection committee will be constituted to select applicants for sponsorship and assure balance and equity in recruiting and selection procedure. The selection committee will consist of representative from the following organizations: Federal Ministry of Health. Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
African Field Epidemiology Network. University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University-Zaria, and CDC.
