ECG & Pharmacology is a classroom-based, facilitator-led course. It's the only course of its kind from the American Heart Association focusing solely on this critical knowledge. It is designed to improve electrocardiogram (ECG) recognition skills and pharmacology knowledge for treating cardiovascular emergencies. Students may use this classroom-based course as preparation for the ACLS Course.

For healthcare professionals who participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies, including emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care personnel such as physicians, nurses, paramedics and others who require this specialized knowledge for their job.

 

Content and Modules 

Basic electrophysiology

Normal ECG measurements

Basic arrhythmias

May be taught by any instructor (no need to be affiliated with an AHA Training Center)

Administration of appropriate drugs within the ACLS algorithms

 

Duration

ECG & Pharmacology contains two modules, ECG and Pharmacology, which may be taken together or separately. The ECG module takes approximately 3.5 hours to complete, and the Pharmacology module takes about 2.75 hours to complete. When the modules are combined, the estimated course length is 6.25 hours.
