INTRODUCTION: Rivers state popularly referred to as TREASURE BASE OF THE NATION, NOW CALLED "RIVERS OF POSSIBILITIES" was created from the defunct old eastern region on 27th may 1967 under the administration of General Yakubu Gowon.

The conference theme: MEDICAL LABORATORY: A Critical Tool in Combating Acute and Chronic Health Challenges is indeed timely. Medical laboratory science remains the key to the cure in the fight against diseases. We need to give meaning and full expression to this theme in our nation and region through continuous acquisition of relevant professional knowledge and skill.
