JOB DESCRIPTION FOR ULTRASONOGRAPHERS

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipments and performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations. The  individual would also be responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient shedule, equipment maintanance, report of equipment failures and quality assessment (QA), maintaining a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field  diseases and new procedures as they eveolve.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

. Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography exams

. Prepare patient for exam by explaining procedures, transferring them to ultrasound table, scrubbing skin and applying gel, positioning them properly and ensuring their comfort during the procedure.

. Uses independent judgement during the sonography exams to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings.

. Uses cognitive sonography skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological findings.

. Determine whether scope of exam should be extended based on findings. Process and code film from procedures and compleate appropriate documentation.

. Obtain and record accurate patient history including prior test results and information from physical examinations.

. Coordinate work shedules with departmental director and/or scheduling desk to assure work overload coverage.

. Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographers care.

. Assist in the daily operations of the sonography lab.

. Maintain a daily lod of patients seen/compleate exams billing forms.

. Maintain ultrasound equipments and work areas also adequate supplies. 

. Participate in the maintenace of lab accreditation.

. Establish and maintain ethical working relationship and good working rapport with all interrelating hospitals, referrals or commercial agencies.

. Perform other work related duties as assigned.

 

NON ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

. Orient new ultrasonographers, provide education and training to new sonographers.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

. Possession of the Bachelor of Radiography degree/Ultrasonography, or its equivalent qualification.

. Registration with the Nigerian Council of Radiographers (NCR), Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN) and Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (MARN).

. Possesion of the current licence to practice in Nigeria.

. Minimum of 5 yrs  working experience in a medical lab., clinic or hospital.

. Relevant Certifications will be an added bonus.

. Strong computer skills 

. Able to interact effectively with patients who range from healthy to critically ill.

. Realistic: able to deal with practical, hands on problems and solutions 

. Investigate; able to work with ideas that require an extensive amount of thinking .

. Good knowledge of Health Regulations.
