inverstigations,
Goals and Objectives:
1. To renew candidate's knowledge of general and basic laboratory and clinical inverstigations in day to day use in diagnosis and treatment and monitoring of patient's progress in medical practice.
2. To enhance cadidates' ability for making critical choices in the array of avaiable clinical and laboratory investigations.
3. To enhance candidate's ability for critical analysis and interpretation of results of clinical and laboratory investigations in patient management.
4. To empower candidates with relevant knowledge for cost effective and retional use of the more expensive and sophisticated clinical and laboratory investigations in patient management
Modalities:
1. Interactive lectures, demonstations, learning through discussion of case scenatrious.
2. Senior accomplished and seasoned medical teachers, pathologists and clinicians shall be the Faculty.
Course Contents:
1. These include laboratory work-up in Sepsis for diagnosis and management towards rational use of antimicrobials;
2. Laboratory diagnosis in the management of Malaria.
3. Basic Electorcadiography in cardiac disease diagnosis, the arrhythmias, ischaemic heart disease and cardiac disease diagnosis, the arrhythmias ischaemic heart disease and cardiac arrest rhyms. Indications for ECHO, and its value addition to ECG.
4. Principles of Ultrasonography (USS, and the common patterns seen in/general/family practice
5. Techniqes in reading the simple X-R (Chest, Skeletal)
6. Laboratory Screening in Preventive Oncology and early cancer diagnosis in General Practice setting (Prostrate, Cervix, Breast, Liver, Colon) using Tumor markers and imaging (ultasonography, Mammogram)
7. Critical laboratory diagnostic tests in Diabetes Thyroid disease, and others.
8. Haematological: the blood picture, RBC indices in dignosis and classification of Anaemia, the haematological malignancies and the coagulopathies. Blood GROUP, Xmatch; HLA in health and disease, and application to paternity determination.
9.Enzymology and serology in diagnosis and treatment....Troponins, BNP, D-Dimer, and Autoantibodies.
10. Radiotherapy,chemotherapy and Counseling in the management of cancer disease.
11. Histological and cytological investigatios, Foresic Medicine in the inversigation Forensic Medicine in the investigation of assaults and parental disputes
12. Autopsy, Death certificates
13. Legal implications arising from under-investigation/misinterpretation
14. Radio-diagnosis including CT and MRI. The basis, indications and applicaility in general/family practice.
15. The EEG, its basis, indications and the common practice.
