PRELIMINARY SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM - Subject to change
This two days symposium is designed to provide a practical review of current evidenced based multispecialty management of a variety of common cardiovascular diseases with emphases on the challenges of practicing in a resource limited environment. Prevention and advanced therapies will be highlighted as well as post operative critical care
The scientific program has been formulated by consulting the current literature in conjunction with the expertise of the program directors and faculty.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After participating in this educational activity, participants should be able to
Understand risk factors, prevention strategies and use of non invasive imaging modalities for diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular diseases.
Understand management of basic cardiac dysrhythmias, cardiovascular emergencies and indications for pharmacologic, interventional and surgical strategies in common pediatric and adult cardiac and peripheral vascular diseases
Understand principles of hemodynamic monitoring, pharmacologic and mechanical support with intraaortic balloon pump for cardiogenic shock.
Understand the management of co morbidities such as acute respiratory failure, acute kidney injury and nosocomial infections in the cardiovascular patient.
Understand practical guidelines in establishing successful cardiac catheterization and non invasive vascular laboratories and open heart surgery programs
TARGET AUDIENCE
This symposium is designed for anesthesiologists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons, pulmonologists/intensivists, nephrologists, general medical practitioners, resident doctors, pharmacists, intensive care unit nurses, perfusionists and other allied health care professionals involved in care of these patients.
