The Group Managing Director, Skye Bank Plc, Mr. Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti, has called for increased advocacy and enlightenment of Nigerians, particularly women on the advantages of early detection of breast cancer.

Durosinmi-Etti spoke at the presentation of two breast cancer screening machines to a non-governmental organisation, Care Organisation and Public Enlightenment Foundation, in Lagos on Thursday.

He said many Nigerians were not aware of basic things like personal breast examination that could help detect cancer early or lifestyle changes they could adopt to reduce their risk for the disease.

According to him, the organisation donated the ultrasound screening machines to the foundation as part of efforts to reduce the prevalent rate of breast cancer in the country.

The two machines that were donated are Logi Q C2 and Mind ray ultra sound systems that could enhance quality diagnosis and ideal for clinical practices.

Durosinmi-Etti said, “We are committed to public health, especially the health of women. These machines, when utilised, would help them know what to do at the appropriate time and we would continue to partner with hospitals and worthy social causes in the health sector to improve the wellbeing and health care of Nigerians.”

Responding, the President, COPE Foundation, Mrs. Ebun Anozie, thanked the bank for the gesture, adding that the new diagnostic machines would assist her organisation to offer free ultra-sound breast scan to women.

She said, “This machine is not age-restrictive like other equipment used to detect breast cancer,  that means more women especially younger women can be screened. What more can we say? We appreciate the effort.”
