The Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria has raised thealarm over what it called preventable deaths arising from epidemic ofcholera which broke out in Zamfara, Plateau and Lagos states.
In a statement by its National Chairman, Prof. Tanimola Akande and National Secretary-General, Dr. Sunday Aderibigbe, obtained by our correspondent in Ilorin on Sunday, APHPN called on the federal andstate governments to urgently accord priority to environmental health.
It also appealed to the government to ensure more provision of water amenities and improvement in people’s sanitation to curb such future occurrence and stem the tide of the present epidemic. It noted that cholera epidemic is mainly caused by dirty environment as well as unhealthy human behavior.
