The Faculty of Surgery is accepting applications from interested Fellows and Senior Registrars for training on Minimal Access Surgery in The Republic of South Africa. The programme is for Young Fellows in General Surgery and Senior Registrars in General Surgery. 

 

Selected Candidates will train Under Prof. Modise Koto, Head Minimal Access Surgery Unit, Department of Surgery at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU), Republic of South Africa.

 

Four training slots of one year duration are available for Fellows in General Surgery and Senior Registrars in General Surgery interested in being competent on Minimal Access Surgery. A single training slot for a “train the trainer” programme of two years duration is also available for Fellows in General Surgery who are interested in Advanced Minimal Access Surgery and who will be training the next generation of minimal access surgeons in the sub region. 

 

Interested applicants should indicate which of the training programmes they are applying for.

 

Each candidate must secure the sponsorship of his/her base institution for them to be considered.

 

Selected trainees will need to support themselves for the period of training in South Africa. Paper work documentation for the training (may take up to 6 months) must be completed before selected trainees can travel for the programme. 

 

Selection of trainees will be on first application basis.
