The Ilorin University Medical Students Association (ILUMSA) had her 32nd Annual Health week kick started on Monday, the 26th of October,2015 in the University’s College of Health Sciences premise.
The health week was commissioned to run from the 26th to 31st of October. The week was officially opened through a press conference that amassed numerous press media within Ilorin. The president of the association in person of Mr. Adeniran Rotimi, a final year 600level Medical student and his vice, gave the health week address alongside issues that centered on the state of the association so far so good.
The president in his speech highlighted the essence of the association and gave a brief history of the medical union from its inception in 1978.He stated that The university of Ilorin has the second highest admission quota of 150 for her Medicine and Surgery programme with The university of Ibadan holding the highest count of 180 according to MDCN. He praised the efforts of the university’s vice chancellor, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali over the road link of the University of Ilorin main site with the college of health sciences believing it would ease transit to the main site.
“I serve as the president of the most intelligent set of people in the university.”, Adeniran adjudged; remarking the fact that members of the association are selected by ally associations to represent them in home and at abroad, using NIMSA(The Nigerian medical students association) as a suitable example. “We’ve rode through the storm of difficulties likewise”, stressing the fact that the association had been suspended from function in the year range of 2009 to 2011 for financial misapplication by the then led administration.
The vice president, Miss Muhammed Mariam, a 500l medical student, on the other hand, in her address, buttressed the point of the president by putting forward an advisory note to all Ilumsa members(Ilumsites) to ensure that the principles laid down by the founding pillars of the organization be held in high regard and courtesy. In this wise, she announced the launching of the MEDILOR Magazine – An annual compendium that was last released in 2011 due to the suspension issues earlier emphasized.
Questions were welcomed from kith and kin, with placating answers being given out from the association’s executives.
A medical lecture,on Wednesday 28th October was delivered by the University Teaching hospital CMD – Prof.Olatinwo on the topic - " NIGERIAN ECONOMIC CRISIS: IMPLICATIONS ON CONTEMPORARY MEDICAL PRACTICE” pointing out pertinent facts that incorporated business, economy and entrepreneurship with Medicine. The day was also used for the launching of the Medilor magazine.
The I.T and Social media day alongside the Dinner night were assigned to be held on Saturday.
