Kankara Indigenous Doctors Forum: One Day Community Outreach

Posted on: Mon 24-07-2017

Kankara Indigenous Doctors’ Forum is a forum of medical doctors of Kankara extraction working in various health institutions in Nigeria coming together to give back to their community. This was borne out of a desire by each and every one of the doctors to impact positively on the good people of kankara local government.

This year’s maiden event held on Saturday 22nd July 2017 at General Hospital Kankara, Katsina state. The program had in attendance all our friends from various health institutions: Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital Zaria, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano, and health workers from various hospitals in Katsina state.

In attendance was the representative of Commissioner of health Katsina state, representative Director Hospital Services, NMA Chairman Katsina state, Gachi Foundation, Local Government Chairman of Kankara, Kanwan Katsina Hakimin Ketare, Sarkin pauwa and others.
A total of Six Hundred and twenty (620) patients (hypertension, diabetes, malaria, typhoid, osteoarthritis e.t.c) were consulted and given free medications and Three Hundred and Twenty (320) surgeries were done for patients with hernia, hydrocele, lipoma and other minor surgical day-cases.

For the forum this is a stepping stone and we hope to have a more robust and expanded program subsequently. We therefore extend our appreciation to NMA Katsina state, the good people of Kankara local government area, the local government Chairman, our host hospital and their staff, primary health care unit, Kanwan Katsina, Alhaji UK Bello (mni) for hosting our doctors by providing accommodation, Gachi Foundation, our numerous doctors and other health personnel who made the event a success and every other person who contributed in one way or the other towards the success of the program.

Thank you.
