GNI Healthcare Limited was incorporated in 2002 as Universal Medical Services Limited Healthcare, a fully fledged subsidiary of Providence Hospitals Limited. The goal at inception was to develop a company capable of becoming a major player in the Health Management Industry of Nigeria. The company is registered in accordance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act 1990, and accredited by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
