PAYMENT OF CAPITATION TO PRIVIDERS THROUGH HEALTH MAINTENANCE ORGANIZATIONS (HMOa)

It has become necessary for the National health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to make it clear, for the avoidance of doubts, that

release of funds for capitation payment to Healthcare Providers accredited with the Scheme, are made UPFRONT, every QUARTER,

to Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs).

This is with the exception of the Uniformed Services, for which payments is made on a monthly basis.

Thus, the HMOs are required to make payments to the providers as they submit their bills EVERY MONTH.

A good illustration is this last quarter of 2014, for which funds have already been remitted to HMOs from the Scheme.

The implication is that all HMOs have a duty to ensure that capitation due to Providers are paid promptly each month.

Stakeholders ae enjoined to please note that deviation from this arranagement will not be tolerated by the Scheme.
