Since July 1 2014, NMA/MDCAN has in a calculated and ego driven strike, unleashed untold hardship on the Nigerian citizens, while the Nigerian Government represented by the Ministry of Health has chosen to play the Humpty-Dumpty. In a TV broadcast, when this strike started, in as much that the Minister of Health Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu, had said that the strike was uncalled for, he had told the world that he did not know what to do, to stop the Allopathic Doctors from the Strike action. 

 

Not minding the stipulations of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the provisions of law enacted by the Nigerian National Assembly, and Provisions of the Public Service Rule, NMA/MDCAN has brazenly violated and trampled on the rule of law. And the Nigerian Government has watched, without being firm to call NMA/MDCAN to order, thereby entrenching the sacred cow syndrome and flying a kite of impunity.

 

NMA/MDCAN in a mantra slogan has always deceived the masses that their actions has always been “ in the interest of the patients.”.

 

In our earlier articles, captioned, “NMA AND HER EGOCENTRIC DEMANDS: THE HEIGHT OF GROSS LAWLESSNESS ,IMPUNITY AND BLACKMAIL” and “THE NIGERIAN HEALTH SECTOR: THE FACE OF JANUS AND THE MATCH TOWARD TOPHET.” We have shown why the demands are a violation of the right to dignity of labour, mutual coexistence, and abuse of the Public Service Rule. And how the Ministry has not been decisive to solving the lingering crisis. A critical reevaluation of the strike action will establish that the strike action is a calculated sabotage and rape on rule of law.

 

WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THE STRIKE ACTION?

 

BELOW IS A SUMMARY OF WHY NMA/MDCAN WENT ON STRIKE.

 

(A) EGO TRIP AND PREJUDICE.

NMA/MDCAN decided to stop working because Government is implementing the rule of law as it affects the Scheme of service of other Healthcare workers who are not Allopathic Doctors, without being prejudicial to the NMA/MDCAN and her members.

 

(B) NMA/MDCAN WANTS GOVERNMENT TO CREATE ILLEGAL OFFICES LIKE DCMAC/SURGEON GENERAL.

NMA/MDCAN is on strike because she wants government to create offices not backed by law to be exclusive for allopathic doctors.

 

(C) NMA/MDCAN IS ON STRIKE BECAUSE OF CBN CIRCULAR.

NMA/MDCAN is on strike because the Nigerian Government through the CBN has empowered Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria to rightfully perform her statutory function in order to bring sanity to the chaotic distribution of INVITRO DIAGNOSTICS in Nigeria (IVDs).

 

(D) NMA/MDCAN WANTS OFFICE OF THE CMD/MD TO BE FOR ALLOPATHIC DOCTORS EXCLUSIVELY.

NMA/MDCAN is on strike because they want government to make the office of the CMD/MD of hospitals to be for allopathic doctors only, even when no Nigerian law has stated thus. Statistics in Nigeria has shown that Allopaths, are not good managers. Moreover there are people who their primary duty is hospital administration/management.

 

(E) NMA/MDCAN IS ON STRIKE BECAUSE THEY WANT GOVERNMENT TO SOLELY DESIGNATE THEM AS CONSULTANTS.-

Even though the scheme of service for other healthcare workers provides that other healthcare workers can be appointed consultants, in their area of expertise and there is a court judgment in favour of JOINT HEALTH SECTOR UNIONS (JOHESU) NMA/MDCAN has chosen to undermine the court judgment, even when she lost in court to stop the Judgment in favour of JOHESU.

 

(F) NMA/MDCAN WANTS TO BE THE ONE DECIDING WHAT OTHER HEALTHCARE STAFF GETS.

NMA/MDCAN wants Government to institutionalize relativity which is not backed by any statute book in Nigeria.

 

(G) NMA/MDCAN WANTS THE TERM MEDICALLY QUALIFIED TO BE FOR THEM EXCLUSIVELY.

Even though the term on who is medically qualified is before a court for determination, NMA/MDCAN is on strike to compel the government to bring out a circular stating that the term medically qualified means only an allopathic physician.

 

(H) NMA/MDCAN DOES NOT WANT OTHER HEALTHCARE STAFF TO REACH THE ZENITH OF THEIR CAREER

Even though the scheme of service of all other healthcare professionals allows them to be appointed as directors NMA/MDCAN is on strike for government to jettison the scheme of service of other healthcare professionals.etc
