The Nursing And Midwifery Council Of Nigeria (NMCN) has confirmed to Nursingworld Nigeria that the updated list of accredited nursing institutions for 2018 would be published after its board meeting.

 

This was in response to a request by Nursingworld CEO Mrs Emelue Jennifer. In her letter to the council tittled "REQUEST FOR LIST OF APPROVED AND ACCREDITED SCHOOLS OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY, ONLINE NURSING PROGRAMS, POST BASIC/ POSTGRADUATE/ DEGREE NURSING PROGRAMS IN NIGERIA", she wrote:

 

NMCN Dissociates Self From Online Nursing Courses, Centers Or Institutions

 

"Sequel to your memo dated January 26th 2018 with Ref Number NMCN/SG/RO/GC/13/IV/129 notifying the general public on the accreditation status of online nursing education program of whatsoever qualification from any institution either within or outside Nigeria, we request for a publication from the council on the list of approved and accredited ONLINE NURSING PROGRAMS and Schools of Nursing and Midwifery within and outside Nigeria."

 

"We also seek in addition, an updated accreditation list of departments of nursing in Nigeria including programs leading to the award of post basic and post graduate diplomas, Masters and PhD in Nursing."

 

This list would undoubtedly serve as a guide for parents and intending nursing students seeking admission into these schools and also protect the general public from exploitation from unapproved schools or schools whose accreditation have either been denied/ withdrawn and have an embargo placed on student intake."

 

"We would also appreciate a list of illegal nursing degree awarding institutions operating in Nigeria if any and also accredited foreign nursing institutions offering degree programs in Nursing. We seek this information on behalf of potential nursing students and the general public to enable them identify certificates valid for employment, further studies and other purposes."

Other points of note raised by the council in her response include:

 

1. Council does not accept online Nursing programme either within or outside the Country.

 

2. Presently Council did not approve any affiliation with any foreign Nursing programme.
