The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Lillian Salami, on Tuesday described the relationship between the University of Benin and its Teaching Hospital as strong, promising that the relationship will be sustained.

Salami, who stated this while receiving the  Chairman of UBTH Management Board, Bashorun Adedoja Adewolu, who was in her office on a courtesy visit, said the marriage of both institutions could never be dissolved.

“There is this marriage between us that can never be dissolved. This marriage is for life. No graduation of students can take place without the teaching hospital. We must work together to render assistance to our staff and students because it is only healthy children that can learn. We realise the role that you play, which is very crucial and we want you to continue in that role,” she said.

Earlier, Adewolu, who led members of the board to congratulate the newly- appointed vice-chancellor, said he had no doubt that she would perform creditably in her new assignment.

While calling on Salami to support UBTH, Adewolu said, “No university can be successful without a teaching hospital and no teaching hospital can exist without attaching itself to a university.

“Your appointment at this time in the history of the University of Benin is not a fluke. It is a clear attestation by the entire university community that you are the most preferred candidate over others. Your ability and capacity to deliver on this job is obvious to the discerning, little wonder the process of selection was flawless and seamless.”
