Notice To NHIS-Accredited Healthcare Facilities For Submission Of Indebtness Of HMOs

The Governing Council of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), in pursuance of the Agency's statutory responsibility of ensuring regular payment of capitations to Health Care Facilities (HCFs), as well as prompt settlement of fee-for-service claims; hereby requests all NHIS accredited HCFs to forward to the Scheme, all debts owed them by Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs). 
 
Furthermore, healthcare facilities accredited for secondary services, which stand alone and are not subsets of accredited primary healthcare facilities (e.g. community pharmacies, laboratories, optometry clinics, dental clinics etc.), that are owed fee-for-service(s) rendered, should also forward such debts owed them by HMOs, to the Scheme. 
 
All claims submitted by healthcare facilities should incorporate sufficient details, which should include but not limited to: name of HMO, services provided, date, amount owed, etc. 
Debts which the HMOs have settled and for which the HCFs have issued letters of non-indebtedness need not be included in the submissions. 
 
This exercise is in furtherance of the sanitisation process currently going on in the Scheme, with the twin objectives of improving quality of service to the enrolee, and rapidly rebuilding public confidence in the industry for the benefit of all. 
 
These submissions should be addressed to the Executive Secretary/CEO (Attn: General Manager, Enforcement Department) and should be received not laterthan close of work on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.
