NSP President Rufai Ahmad Invites Contributions to the Development of a Strategic Plan for the NSP

Posted on: Mon 30-01-2017

Dear colleagues, The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy wishes to develop a strategic plan that is expected to guide how it conducts its activities. This will serve as a road map with cohesive action plan to achieve desirable results in the next few years. The best strategic plans are those developed with input from all members of the organization. This will ensure maximum contribution from all members and continuity from one administration to another. Thus, NSP will ensure that all Physiotherapists are given the opportunity to make input in the NSP Strategic Plan.
A template for developing the strategic plan has already been designed and will be circulated soon.

The template has three sections. The first section has provision for Vision, Mission and core values. The Vision is the ‘dream of where we intend to be’; this is the ‘desired future state’, the ‘destination’. The mission captures the ‘purpose and role’ of the Society in relation to the destination. It takes into consideration the services provided and the recipient of the services. Core values are the virtues or ethical standards of the Society. NSP has approved Vision, Mission and Core values. Although, these concepts change over years in any organization, the template reflects the approved ones.

The second section seeks to capture the SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunities and threats) analysis. This helps in identifying internal and external factors that could hinder the Society from achieving its set goals and ways of enhancing/utilizing/harnessing the strengths and opportunities and at the same time eliminating/minimizing the weaknesses and threats. Examples have been given in the template to guide input.

The last section captures the strategic goals. It has provision for goals, objectives required to achieve each stated goal, activities needed to achieve each objective, outcome expected from the activity, the person/team/group responsible for the activity and timeframe within which the activity is expected to take place. The goals could cut across many aspects of the Society such as publicity, finance, secretariat, education, establishment, professional practice/ethics, research, etc. Examples have also been given to guide input in this section.

I wish to implore you to use this opportunity to contribute to the development of a plan that will establish a great future for our dear Society. Please think big but at the same time be realistic.
Thank you.
Rufai Yusuf Ahmad
