President Buhari Vetoes Radiographers Registration Bill

Posted on: Fri 06-07-2018

President Muhammadu Buhari has vetoed the radiographers Registration Amendment Bill recently passed by the National Assembly.

This was conveyed to the Senate yesterday, in a letter from President Buhari, which was read on the floor of the chamber by the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
However, there were obvious inconsistencies in Buhari’s letter because the letter notifying the Senate of his withholding of assent to the bill was dated June 18 but according to Mr. President in the letter, his decision to withhold assent was taken June 26.

Part of the letter reads:

“I hereby convey to the Senate, my decision on 26th June, 2018, to decline the Presidential Assent to the Radiographers (Registration) (Amendment) Bill recently passed by the National Assembly".

“This is due to the expansion of the scope of “persons” covered by the Bill which we are concerned will create disharmony in the health sector".
