CARDIATHORACIC NURSE 

JOB SUMMARY

Functions within the cardiac intensive unit, CCU, Cat lab, resuscitation committee, and Emergency room as required.

• Will provide services that are related to but not limited to- direct patient care, interventional cardiology support, medication administration  cardiopulmonary resuscitation, cardiac monitoring, post interventional patient monitoring and management, clinical risk identification and management, ,nursing plan monitoring, quality improvement and process audits, quality control, pre procedure documentation,  equipment maintenance alerts,  safety practices,  stock  management, infection control compliance, regulatory compliance and discharge planning.

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

• Intensive care for cardiology patients

• BLS, ACLS 

• Post intervention nursing care

• Use of basic cardiac instruments and equipment ECG

• Knowledge of all common cardiac conditions and interventions

• Planning and organizing intensive care services

• Patient education and counselling models e.g. lifestyle changes 

• Manual handling

• Patient safety goals    

 

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Risk management skills

• Problem solving skills

• Ability to provide nursing care plans

• Good communication skills

 

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTE

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION &EXPERIENCE

• General nursing qualification

• post graduate cardio/cardiothoracic training

• 1 years in a Cardiac unit

• and preferably 1 year in CCU environment

 

 

PERIOPERATIVE NURSE

JOB SUMMARY

The post holder will ensure that the 3 key stages of the procedure are adequately managed, i.e. (the pre, post and intra-operative phases such that the patient receives an appropriate level of care that meets quality standards of safety, accessibility, timeliness, customer centricity.

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

• General nursing

• Diploma in perio-perative nursing

• Knowledge of patient safety goals

• Knowledge of standard infection control processes

• Knowledge of the methods techniques and procedures needed to  provide surgery support and instrument sterility

• General knowledge about Theatre management 

• Stock management

• BLS, ACLS

 

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Planning, organizing skills

• Problem solving skills

• Ability to provide detailed and accurate reports

• Good communication skills

• Good administrative skills

• Time management skills

• People management skills

• skills in working with a variety of professional and non professional staff

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION &EXPERIENCE

INTENSIVE CARE NURSES

All relevant experience is essential. Skills and personal attributes closely related to cardiothoracic. 

Preferably minimum of 2 years experience in an intensive care unit. 

Registered intensive care certificate is a major requirement!
