Second National Symposium On Drugs And Drug Control Policy In Nigeria

The Centre for Research and Information on Substance Abuse (CRISA), in collaboration with its partners, hereby announces the second National Symposium on Drugs and Drug Control Policy in Nigeria. You may recall that the first symposium was held in Uyo in 2013 and that the series was initiated to provide a forum for extensive discussion of drug issues with particular relevance to Nigeria.  
 
The 2015 Symposium will focus on different aspects of the drug problem in Nigeria and will be organized around several topical areas using different formats as follows:  
 
1.    Panel Discussions
o    Legal and policy framework for drug control in Nigeria 
o    Towards the United Nations Special Session on the World Drug Problem (UNGASS 2016)
o    Drug demand reduction and alcohol policy: the missing link in substance abuse control in Nigeria
o    Organized crime networks in the ECOWAS region 
o    Harm to others from drinking: WHO/Thai-Health project in Nigeria
 
2.    Capacity Building
o    Community based treatment and rehabilitation
o    Early identification and brief interventions
o    Writing a winning grant application
 
3.    CSO Special Sessions
o    Developing and sustaining a CSO network in Nigeria
o    Enhancing cooperation between CSOs and Law Enforcement Agencies
 
4.    Poster Presentations
o    Presenting drug related research
o    Showcasing your organization
 
Keynote speakers and other resource persons will be invited to handle these topics in plenary sessions and in small group discussion sessions. There will also be opportunity for individual presentations on any topic related to substance use in Nigeria and NGOs will be given the opportunity to showcase the work of their organizations in poster sessions.
 
If you are interested in presenting the results of your empirical research, review of drug policy or the achievements of your NGO please submit a brief summary (not more than 200 words) to the Local Organizing Committee on or before the date shown below.
 
Abstract submission: Monday, 10 August 2015
Submission of full paper: Friday, 25 September 2015
Arrival: Tuesday, 27 October 2015
Conference dates: Wednesday 28 & Thursday 29 October 2015
Departure: Friday, 30 October 2015
 
Symposium Fee: 30,000 Naira
Travel awards will be available to selected NGO representatives and scholars whose proposals/abstracts are judged to be of high quality and have been accepted for presentation.
