The lawmaker representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Magnus Abe, has called for a summit of stakeholders to find solution to the issue of soot in Rivers State.
Abe made the call while speaking at a special thanksgiving service and reception held at the St. James Anglican Church, Kpite, to celebrate the victory of the All Progressives Congress in Tai, Eleme and Oyigbo Federal Constituency in the December 10, 2016 re-run election in the state.
He described soot as a looming health calamity that might have negative consequences on the health of the residents.
The senator, who demanded that a national health emergency be declared in the state, noted that soot posed great danger to the health of residents of the state as it could be visibly seen on cars, houses and in the atmosphere.
Explaining that the time for politics was over, the lawmaker stated that attention should now be on solving the problems of the people.
