Applications are invited from suitable qualified candidates for admission into the following Programmes:
 
COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES
A. FACULTY OF BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCES 
1. MD/MS DEGREE PROGRAMME 
(a) Candidates must be either Medical Graduates (MBBS) of the University of Port Harcourt for not less than 5 years or confirmed and experienced. academic staff of the University with Medical Degree of other recognized Universities. 
(b) In addition to the above, candidates must possess either a recognized professional qualification at the fellowship level or at least an M.Sc .Degree of a recognized University, after the MB.BS Degree. 
 
1. DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY 
(1) PGD in Human Physiology 
(2) M.Sc, Ph.D in Human Physiology 
 
Special areas: 
(a) Membrane Physiology 
(b) Endocrine and Reproductive Physiology 
(c) Blood Physiology 
(d) Nutrition Physiology 
(e) Neuro Physiology 
 
Requirements for M.Sc Programmes:  
(i) Graduates of the University of Port Harcourt or other Universities recognized by statute of the University of Port .Harcourt with a Second Class Honours Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent in Human Physiology or related discipline. 
(ii) Holders of MB.BS, DVVM or BVM, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Anatomy with a CGPA of 3.50 in Postgraduate Diploma in Human Physiology. 
(iii) Requirement for Ph.D Programmes: Candidates must possess an M.Sc or M.Phil Degree or its equivalent in Human Physiology, in addition to the other Faculty Requirements. 
 
2. DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN ANATOMY 
(i) M.Sc, Ph.D in Anatomy 
Requirements for M.Sc in Human Anatomy: 
(a) Candidates must possess a Second Class Honours Degree with at least a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent in Anatomy from the University of Port Harcourt or other recognized Universities. 
(b) Holders of good Degrees in Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary Medicine and Physiotherapy. 
ii. Areas of Specialization in Ph.D Anatomy: 
(a) Histochemistry and Teratology 
(b) Clinical Anatomy 
(c) Physical and Forensic Anthropology (d) Radiological Anatomy 
 
Requirements for Ph.D in Anatomy:  
Candidate must have MSc Degree in Anatomy with a minimum CGPA of 4 points on a 5-points scale or its equivalent qualification. Interviews are conducted to assess candidates before admission and final selection is based on interview performance.
 
3. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY 
i. M.Sc Pharmacology 
(a) Candidates must possess a Second Class Honours Degree with at least a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent in Pharmacology from the University of Port Harcourt or other recognized Universities. 
(b) Holders of good Degree in Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Physiology and related Biomedical Science subjects. 
(ii) Ph.D in Pharmacology: Candidates must possess an M.Sc or an MPhil Degree or an equivalent Degree in Pharmacology in addition to the other Faculty Requirements with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a 5- point scale. 
 
4. DEPARTMENT OF HAEMATOLOGY, BLOOD TRANSFUSION AND IMMUNOLOGY 
Requirements for M.Sc in Immunology Programmes:  A minimum of five O'level credit passes including English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics in addition to an ar.nentahln hirh genre. at the. IME and Post UME.
 
The Course is open to graduates of Medicine, Dentistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Nursing, Biochemistry, Molecular-Biology, Microbiology, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Zoology and other relevant courses. Candidates who hold a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale or in any of the above mentioned subjects, from the University of Port Harcourt or other recognized Universities shall be eligible for admission into the programme except, the Medical and Dental graduates. 
 
B. FACULTY OF CLINICAL SCIENCES 
1. M.Sc Sports Medicine 
(a) For medically qualified persons with MB.BS, B.Ch or a fellowship in any Medical discipline. 
(b) The duration of Course is 18 —36 months. The Course work will be taught in two semesters of 12 months while the student will spend the remaining 6 months in a training attachment and a project work. 
(c) Area of specialty — Sports Medicine generally, while the project work will be on Sport of interest.
 
5. DEPARTMENT OF PREVENTIVE AND SOCIAL MEDICINE 
i. Master of Public Health (MPH) for MBBS graduates 
ii. Master of Science in Public Health (MSc Public Health MSPH) for other B. Sc in Science, Anatomy etc. 
 
Admission Requirements:  
The Programmes will be open to candidates who possess a first Degree in Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing and other relevant courses allied to Medicine. In addition candidates must have at least three years post Degree experience and must have completed National Youth Service (NYSC) programme.  Candidates for admission into the programme will undergo a selection process and only those who are successful will be admitted into the programme. To serve the interest and needs of all Medical, Health and allied professions who desire the programme, there is need to simultaneously mount two separate programmes, one for medically qualified graduates and another for non-medically qualified professionals who wish to practice Public Health.
 
Requirements for Master of Public Health Programme:  
(a) MBBS or its equivalent, with a minimum of three years post qualification experience. 
(b) Candidates are also required to pass the qualifying examination. 
 
Requirements for MSc Publit Health Programme:  
(a) B.Sc Honours in a health-related discipline with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division (22) Degree with CGPA not less than 3.00 on a 5-point scale or CGPA of 2.5 on a 4 point scale. 
(b) Candidates are also required to pass the qualifying examination. 
 
C. FACULTY OF PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES 
 
6. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOGNOSY 
(i) M.Phann and Ph.D Programmes 
Areas of Specialization: 
(a) Phytochemistry/Phytotherapy Research 
(b) Medicinal Plant Research 
(c) Standardization of Phytopharmaceuticals/Herbals 
(d) Formulation Studies ofHerbal Products 
(e) Tissues Culture
 
Requirements for M.Pharm: 
Candidates must possess a good first Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized University, not below Second Class Honours with a minimum CGPA of 3 points on a 5 points scale. Non pharmacy graduates in closely related subjects like Chemistry, Biochemistry and Botany may be considered for admission. Such candidates may be required to take remedial undergraduate courses in .Pharmacognosy as recommended by the Departmental Graduate Studies Committee. 
 
Requirements for Ph.D:  
(i) Candidates who possess the M.Pharm Degree in Pharmacognosy of the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized Universities, with a CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-points scale. However candidates with CGPA of 3.0 in their M.Pharm or M.Sc Programmes in the Pharmacognosy or related disciplines may be considered for admission. Such candidates shall be required to take recommended 700 level/remedial courses which they must pass at an average score of 60% in the first year. 
(ii) Candidates with M.Sc/M.Pharm Degree (minimum CGPA of 3.5); M.Phil Degrees in Pharmacognosy, Ethnomedicine, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Botany of the University of Port Harcourt or other approved Universities. Final selection of candidates is by presentation of a research proposal. Put-Time candidates will also be considered. 
 
7. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICS AND PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGY 
(i) M.Pharm and Ph.D Programmes 
Areas of Specialization for M.Pharm: 
(a) M.Pharm in Pharmaceutics 
(b) M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Technology 
 
Requirements for M.Pharm:  
Candidates must be graduates of Pharmacy from the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized Universities with at least a Second Class (Lower Division) or a declassified approved Degree Programme with evidence of good performance in pharmaceutics. Candidates shall be required to satisfy the Department in a selection process. 
 
Areas of Specialization for Ph.D: 
(a) Ph.D in Pharmaceutics 
(b) Ph.D in Pharmaceutical Technology 
 
Requirements for Ph.D 
(i) A graduate of the University of Port Harcourt holding a Masters Degree (M.Pharm) in the specialized field of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology with requirements as stated above for the M.Pharm Programme. 
(ii) Graduates of the University of Port Harcourt holding a Masters Degree as stated above in the requirements for M.Pharm who have obtained at least a CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale or an overall average of 60%(B) in the course work. 
(iii) A graduate of any other recognized university who meets the above requirements shall be admitted on presentation of transcripts from the university. Candidates may be required to take relevant remedial courses as may be recommended by the Departmental and Faculty Graduate Committees.
 
8. DEPARTMENT OF EXPERIMENTAL PHARMACOLOGY AND TOXICOLOGY 
(i) MSc & Ph.D Toxicology 
Areas of Specialization: 
(a) Drug Toxicology  
(b) Food Toxicology 
(c) Medical/Clinical Toxicology 
(d) Environmental Toxicology 
 
Requirements for M.Sc Toxicology:  
Candidates must possess a B.Sc Degree from the University of Port Harcourt or from any other recognized University in any of these disciplines: Biological and Chemical Sciences including (Chemistry, Civil, Agricultural, Chemical and Environmental Engineering), Medical Sciences and Forensic Sciences. 
 
Requirements for Ph.D:  
Candidates who obtained a minimum CGPA of 3.5 in the relevant written examinations and project on the M.Sc Course in Toxicology of the University of Port Harcourt, or any other recognized University. 
 
METHOD OF APPLICATION  
Application Fee of Fourteen Thousand Naira (N14,000.00) should be paid online at any of the following Banks: U&C Microfinance Bank, UBA,-Union Bank, Access Bank, Eco Bank and First Bank. 
 
It is mandatory for every candidate to pay the sum of Six Thousand Naira (N6,000.00) for Prospectus.
 
Candidates should also visit www.cgs.uniportdatacenter.net/portal/application to download the Application Forms after payment.
