SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, COLLEGE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES
DEPARTMENT OF ANAESTHESIOLOGY
Admission Requirements:
(a) Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (MB.BS) or its equivalent
(b) Candidates should also have completed a one year Housemanship
(c) Should have NYSC Certificate or exemption letter

DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE

Masters in Nephrology
Duration of Programme:
Four semesters (24 calendar months) (Full-Time).
Admission Requirements:
(a) Candidate is expected to possess a first degree in Medicine, such as MB, BS; MB,ChB or equivalent, from any recognised university in Nigeria or abroad .
(b) Evidence of enrolment in the fellowship programme of either the National postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or the West African Postgraduate Medical
College, may be an added advantage.
DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY HEALTH
Programmes Offered:
Master of Public Health (MPH) Programme:
Admission Requirements:
(a) Post NYSC Medical and Dental doctors would be eligible for admission
(b) Applicants would be required to sit and pass an entrance examination
(c) Acceptable degrees in Health Sciences; Not below 2nd Class Lower
(d) Must have Public Health Experience.
MPH Programmes is on part-time and full-time bases and the candidates are to sit for entrance examination.
Duration of programme
a) MPH: Full time 12 months minimum and maximum 48 months
b). MPH: Part Time mimimum 24 months and Maximum 48 months
INSTITUTE OF CHILD HEALTH
Admission Requirements
(a) Candidates must hold a Medical Degree (MBBS, MB, CHB) from a recognized University, at least three (3) years before the date of commencement of the course.
(b) Candidates must be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
(c) Candidates must produce satisfactory evidence to the Institute of a successful preregistration House Job rotation of at least (3) months in Pediatrics.
Duration:
(a) M.Sc programme:
(i) Full-Time 4-6 semesters
(b) The programme will run only on PARTTIME basis.

DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY:

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Anatomy
Admission Requirements:
M.Sc. in Anatomy:
The candidate should possess a B.Sc. with at least a Second Class honours lower division in Anatomy or a degree in Medicine Dentistry .
Ph.D in Anatomy:
The candidate should pass the M.Sc. degree in Anatomy from a recognized University with a weighted average of 60%.
Duration of Programmes:
(a) M.Sc programme:
(i) Full-Time 4-6 semesters
(b) Ph.D programme:
(i) Full-Time 6-10 semesters
DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH
Programme Offered:
M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology
Admission Requirements:
(a) Bachelor’s degree in psychology from a recognised university.y
(b) Acceptable degrees in Health Sciences; Not below 2nd Class Lower
(c) Must have Public Health Experience
A. GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
I. A Candidate for postgraduate studies in the university of Benin must have obtained at least five (5) credits in WASC, NECO, GCE (ordinary level or their equivalents,) A credit pass in Maths and English is required.
II. Four credits of Ordinary level plus OND (not pass), NCE, IJMB or Advance level passes.
III. A holder of a Pass (Degree/Diploma) is not qualified for admission into the postgraduate programme of the University of Benin. In addition, all holders of 3rd class degree must possess PGD to be considered for admission into the Masters programmes.
IV. Candidates who obtained Masters degree but with Weighted Average Score (WAS) between 55.0-59% can only be considered for admission into the M.Phil programme in the first instance.
V. A candidate applying for the Ph.D in any programme of the University of Benin must have obtained a weighted average score of 60% or letter grade ‘B’ average in the Masters degree.
VI. A candidate applying for the PhD with a Master’s degree from any other University who in his/her Master’s study has not previously taken the compulsory courses or their equivalents similar to the ones in the University of Benin shall on admission be required to offer and pass such courses with a minimum of 60% or letter grade ‘B’.
Transcripts
Candidates should request their former Universities/Institutions to forward their academic transcript(s) to the “Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies”, to reach him not later than 8 weeks from the date of this publication. Applications of candidates whose transcripts are not forwarded to the school shall not be processed.
Referees Reports
Candidates should request their referees to mail reports on them directly to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies. Applications shall not be processed unless the referee reports are available.
