Communication Specialist, Electoral Empowerment of Civil Society Project – Nigeria
Position Summary: Pact seeks a Communication Specialist for an anticipated USAID program in Nigeria to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) to become integral parts of election activities. Communications Specialist will be responsible for the overall management, and technical oversight of an integrated communication strategy to promote electoral process in Nigeria. The Specialist shall work with the CSOs to develop , design and distribute election messages. .The Specialist will lead the development and strategic operations of knowledge and information management.
Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic guidance to CSOs in formulating official external relations program as means to effectively communicate key messages to the widest electoral stakeholders.
• Advise CSOs in the development of media and communication strategy and plan.
• Develop and lead implementation of an integrated communication strategy that promotes project messages to key audiences through diverse media.
• Develop standardized reporting formats, regular reports and progress updates, briefing, bulletin for both CSOs and donors community. Also develop Monitoring and Evaluation plan for the implementation of civic/voter education, and public outreach activities.
• Create quick publications and templates for proposals, fact sheets, or report covers on an as needed basis with short turnaround.
• Leads the development and strategic operations of knowledge and information management, including the technical infrastructure, to support effective communications to internal and external audiences.
• Oversees news, multi-media, e-communications, editorial, publishing, information management and technology functions.
• Leads the development of communications management infrastructure.
• Manages all communications activities on the ground, including interface with media.
• Keep an organized database of photos (including source of the photos, due credit, etc).
• Manages other print needs (brochures, CD-ROMs, booth materials, primers, etc.).
Additional Qualifications:
• Masters Degree in Communications, Public Health, or other relevant field.
• 7 years of relevant professional experience in communications and dissemination.
• At least 3 years of experience in Nigeria is highly desirable.
• Experience successfully managing staff.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills, initiative, and good judgment.
• Ability to anticipate and solve problems.
• Ability to independently plan and execute complex tasks while addressing daily management details and remaining organized and focused on long-term deadlines and strategy.
• Fluency in relevant local languages and excellent verbal communication and writing skills in English.
• Ability to develop networks and managing relationships with key stakeholders
