On behalf of the LOC, I wish to appreciate and heartily welcome you to the Maiden edition of Late Dr. Living Ageyoi Jamala Memorial lecture of the Association of Resident Doctors, Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital chapter.

This event is to commemorate the demise of Late Dr. Living Ageyoi Jamala, who until his death was a resident doctor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital. He contracted the deadly Lassa fever while delivering a pregnant woman at his place of work.

The theme and guest speaker of this memorial lecture has been carefully selected to reflect and critically appraise the roles and challenges of Health workers in Healthcare delivery and to re-strategise the Healthcare providers to meet the modern day -hallenges in combating emerging and re-emerging diseases in our environment.
It is also a call to the government and other relevant authorities to be proactive rather than reactive in order to avert further death amongst Healthcare workers while dispensing their duties.

The high point of this annual programme is to remind us that Late Dr. Living Ageyoi Jamala did not only pay a supreme price by dying but also saved many life who would have died in course of their duty as the government and other agencies swiftly responded to reduce the spread of the disease.

In conclusion, my appreciation and commendation is to the ARD BMSH for accomplishing this programme.

Thank you and God bless you.

Dr. Alex Woke
Chairman LOC
