Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria Congratulations Nigerians on Wild Polio Virus – Free Status

Posted on: Tue 15-09-2020

On behalf of members of the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN), we wish to convey our congratulatory message to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, for the country's attainment of Wild Polio Virus - free status as declared by the World Health Organisation (WHO) recently.

To say the President has done us proud is to state the obvious. The battle with Wild Polio Virus in Nigeria had been a long and tortuous one with the previous administrations trying the best they could.

Following a consistent show of concern and uncommon commitment by the Buhari administration the nation has finally kicked the dreaded disease out of the country.

The achievement did not come easy. It took the President so much strategies and commitment to accomplish the feat. He ensured adequate funding to the relevant organisations responsible for tackling the disease and also ensured only capable hands were appointed to manage the organisations.

We congratulate the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire and the Minister of State for Health, Dr. (Sen.) Olorunnimbe Mamora and the ED of NPHCDA, Dr Faisal Shuaib, whose collective visionary leadership has resulted in this great accomplishment. We are witnesses to the many public health strategies employed by the NPHCDA including the relentless community engagements to sensitise the populace towards accepting the polio vaccination. We appreciate all your efforts.

We also wish to appreciate the efforts of traditional leaders, development partners, NGOs, donors, members of Association of public health Physicians of Nigeria found in all the states of the federation, all health workers and other stakeholders directly involved in the polio campaign for their resilience and unalloyed dedication.

Congratulations, Nigerians!

Signed:

Prof. BSC Uzochukwu
