The Place

Located in Okado, Ovio North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria, Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH) was established on 3rd May, 1993 as Igbinedion Hospital and Medical Research Centre. The Hospital served as a springboard for the establishment of Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO) on 10° May, 1999. With outreaches in Benin City, the Hospital, amongst others, plays a pivotal role in the accreditation of courses within the College of Health Sciences, the College of Pharmacy, and other medical sciences-related programmes of Igbinedion University.

The Position

The Governing Council of Igbinedion University Okada hereby invites applications from suitably qualified and exceptional medical doctors of the rank of Professor with cognate experience in university teaching, medical research and administration for the post of Chief Medical Director of Ighinedion University Teaching Hospital, Okeda.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate shall be the Head and Chief Executive Officer of Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital responsible for leadership, management and development of the hospital and spearheading the realization of its vision and mission. He/She shall be responsible to the Governing Council for the execution of policies and programmes affecting the day-to-day administration of the Hospital.

Qualities

• The candidate is expected to be a person of proven character and courage. Additionally, he/she should:
• Have wide academic and administrative experience in the University, government or industry, and capable of giving dynamic leadership to the University teaching hospital
• Be capable of linking quality research to industry in order to promote innovation.
• Have capacity to foster international partnerships and facilitate students and faculty exchanges.
• Possess high reputation nationally and internationally, with capacity to command the respect of national and international academic communities through his or her track records.
• Possess strong leadership qualities to successfully lead a group of well informed and
• articulate academic community
• Be of good physical and mental health.

Requirements

Interested candidates should have the following:

• Medical or Dental practice license registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria with not less than fifteen (15) years
• post-graduation experience.
• Fellowship of either the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or West African Postgraduate Medical College or its
• equivalent registerable by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
• Bea Professor and erudite scholar in his or her chosen specialization and well rooted in the finest academic traditions,
• Must have been o Consultant for a minimum of five 6) years,
• Should not be above 60 years of age on assumption of office.
• Evidence of Medical Research, ability to attract research grant{s} and knowledge of information and communications technology are added advantages.
• Additionally, the candidate should enclose his/her Vision Statement for the Hospital in the next four (4) years in not more than 1000 words.
• The Curriculum Vitae should include, amongst others, the names and addresses of three (3) referees, one of whom must be a Senior Medical or Dental Practitioner of NOT LESS than twenty (20) years standing who should be in a position to attest to the candidate's academic, professional and managerial abilities. This should be accompanied by recommendation lettersfrom the referees.

Tenure of Office

The appointment is for an initial term of four (4) years, renewable subject to satisfactory performance at the discretion of the Board of Regents of Igbinedion University, Okada.
