Role Purpose
- The Chief Nursing Officer – Critical Care & Acute Health Services will provide strategic and clinical leadership to ensure the highest standards of patient-centered care, particularly within critical and acute healthcare units.
- This role requires a proven leader with extensive experience managing complex clinical environments, developing high-performing nursing teams, and implementing evidence-based care systems, including Early Warning Score (EWS) monitoring tools for patient safety and early intervention.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, plan, and manage all nursing services with a strong focus on critical care and acute patient management.
- Establish and enforce nursing standards, policies, and clinical protocols consistent with best practices in critical care.
- Ensure all clinical teams utilize Early Warning Score (EWS) tools effectively for monitoring patient conditions and improving outcomes.
- Oversee nursing workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and continuous professional development.
- Promote patient safety and infection prevention through robust quality improvement and clinical governance programs.
- Support accreditation readiness and compliance with local and international standards (JCI/ISO).
- Collaborate closely with medical directors, quality assurance, and administrative departments to align nursing care with hospital-wide strategic goals.
- Monitor nursing performance metrics, patient satisfaction, and clinical quality indicators to drive continuous improvement.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, empathy, and clinical excellence among nursing staff.
- Mentor and empower nursing leaders to build internal capacity for long-term institutional growth.

- Improved clinical outcomes in critical care units (mortality, readmission, response time).
- Compliance with Early Warning Score (EWS) tool use and reporting standards.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc) or equivalent.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field is an advantage.
- 10 - 15 years of progressive nursing experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Valid Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) license.
- Proven background in critical healthcare environments (ICU, ER, acute care units) is essential.
- Demonstrated experience using and managing teams trained on Early Warning Score (EWS) systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- In-depth understanding of healthcare quality improvement, accreditation, and clinical risk management.
