The AMCE will provide exceptional care to people on the African continent, regardless of their financial means. Developed by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in clinical partnership with King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust., AMCE Abuja is the first of five centres planned for development in Africa.

Job Title: Clinical Assistant Haematologist
Location: Abuja
Job Purpose
The Clinical Assistant will provide comprehensive clinical and administrative support to our specialist team, ensuring the highest standards of care for patients with haematological conditions.
He/ She will be instrumental in coordinating patient procedures, maintaining precise records, and facilitating the smooth operation of our department, all within a dynamic and international healthcare setting.
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
Clinical Support:
- Prepare patients for haematological procedures, ensuring informed consent and completing all necessary documentation.
- Provide direct support to clinicians during patient assessments, treatments, and follow-up consultations.
- Accurately monitor and record patient vital signs, laboratory results, and other critical clinical data.
- Assist with the collection, labelling, and transportation of specimens for haematological diagnostics.
- Coordinate and maintain meticulous, up-to-date electronic patient records.
Administrative Support:
- Efficiently schedule and manage patient appointments, consultations, and follow-up visits.
- Maintain detailed and confidential records of patient histories, treatment plans, and clinical progress notes.
- Handle departmental correspondence, including processing referrals and disseminating lab results.
- Manage the inventory of specialised medical supplies and equipment for the haematology unit.
- Assist with data entry and contribute to the tracking of patient outcomes.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure all clinical activities adhere to international hospital standards and haematology best practices.
- Strictly comply with infection control protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Proactively identify and report any discrepancies, participating in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Uphold patient safety by recognising potential risks and supporting the implementation of corrective actions.
Patient Interaction & Advocacy:
- Act as a knowledgeable and compassionate point of contact for patients and their families, providing clear information and emotional support.
- Educate patients on their treatment plans and protocols, addressing questions and concerns to promote understanding and adherence.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless, comprehensive patient care.
Qualifications
- Diploma in a relevant clinical or biomedical science field.
Experience:
- At least 2 years’ experience in a clinical healthcare environment.
- Proven familiarity with patient safety standards and healthcare regulations.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
