Management and staff of Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology, Jos inviting Stakeholders to participate in the curriculum development of the Course Program to be submitted to the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) and National Universities Commission (NUC) for approval. This is concerning the Act of the College and the Ministerial directives.
It is of utmost importance for stakeholders to contribute their wealth of experiences to the development of a robust curriculum for the training of human resources for health. We are all aware that the certificates issued by the regulatory bodies were out rightly rejected by the office of the head of Civil Services of the Federation (OHCSF) because the Regulatory Bodies are not Educational Certificate awarding Training Institutions and such Certificates cannot be used for Employment and promotion in Public Service.
The Honorable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare has ordered, after a meeting with the Management of the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology Jos and the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria for the immediate implementation of the resolutions to fast-track the development of human resources in some critical area for primary, secondary, tertiary as well as quaternary prevention at these levels of healthcare services. The courses considered critical to the holistic provision of healthcare services and approved by the Honorable Minister of State Health and Social Welfare to be run by this College are as follows:
- Immunology and Vaccine Production
- Medical Laboratory Management
- Blood Banking Practice
- Health Economics
- Phlebotomy
- Public Health
- Healthcare Management and Organizational Behavior
- Molecular Biology and Forensics Practice
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician
- Mortuary Science
For the purpose of harnessing great ideas to develop enriched curricula for the above program the following eminent stakeholders have been invited:
- Director of Medical Laboratory Services, Department of Hospital Services FMOH/SW
- The Registrar/CEO of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.
- Past Registrar/ECO of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.
- Chairman Board of Trustees of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN)
- Past National Presidents of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN)
- Present National President and Secretary of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN)
- President, Guild of Private Medical Laboratory Practitioners
- President of the Association of Young Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria
- President of the Association of Women Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria
- President of the Board of Fellows
- Two Representatives from each geopolitical zone of the country
Take this assignment as a call to salvage the proliferation/deterioration of Medical Laboratory Science Practice in Nigeria thereby contributing to the advancement, development, and growth of Medical Laboratory Science practice. Also by the directives of the Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, which complies with Act 2003 establishing the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, the Medical Laboratory Science Council's powers to conduct examinations that will lead to the award of any certificate for appointment in Public Services is annulled.
