A digital health firm, Premier Medical Systems, has partnered the Nigerian Medical Association, Nigerian Cardiac Society and the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners to celebrate doctors in the country.
According to a statement on Monday, the 2021 edition of Physician of the Year awards would hold on December 3 in Lagos.
“The award was introduced to identify and celebrate doctors who have achieved and excelled in the current year. The overall objective is to use the award to inspire and motivate colleagues to achieve and attain greater heights in their individual practice and profession.
“A major difference for this year’s award is that it will be held as a national event for medical doctors and dentists across Nigeria, rather than Lagos alone,” the statement partly reads.
The voting category, according to the organisers includes Physician of the Year (Public sector), Physician of the Year (Private sector), Physician of the Year (Diaspora), Young Physician of the Year, Special Recognition Award for Excellence in Mother and Child Care, Special Recognition Award for Excellence in Cardiovascular Care, Special Recognition Award for Excellence in Surgical Care and Special Recognition Award for Excellence in Oncology Care.
“Under the non-voting category, seven awards will be given, they include special recognition award in six physicians whose work has led to advancement and elevation of practice in a particular field/area or who have demonstrated uncommon courage in their practice or whose work had led to a significant increase in access to quality and affordable care. One will be selected from each of the six geo-political zones in Nigeria.
“Lifetime achievement award will be given to a physician above 70 years who has made indelible marks and contributions to the practice of medicine and dentistry and improvement of health care. This brings the total awards to 15,” the statement added.
