This is to inform all Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Corporate entities such as Commercial Banks, Oil Companies, National and Multilateral Corporations, Medical and Health Facilities, Hospitality Outfits, National and International Non-Governmental Organizations, Medium and Small Enterprises and the General Public that it is illegal to engage the services of Companies providing. Waste collection, Public Health Pest control, Cleaning Services, Sewage collection, Sanitary Inspection of Premises, Air Quality Management/Noise pollution Control Services, Health, Safety and Environment Services, Resource Recovery Services, Environmental Health Laboratory Services, Waste Recycling services, Laundry Services, Waste Disposal Facility management, Health Care Waste Management, Sea and Air vessels Cleaning Services, Health Impact Assessment, Motor Vehicle Cleaning, Public Health Chemicals sales and Radiation Control Services — all severally and collectively referred to as Environmental Health Service Providers that are not registered with the Council. The Clients and/or Patronizers of such illegally operating entities and the General public should note that Act No. 11 of 2002 - the Council enabling Law mandates it to regulate Environmental Health Practice in Nigeria. Additionally, the National Environmental Health Practice Regulations, 2016 issued by the Federal Ministry of Environment further clarifies the Scope of the Practice in Nigeria. In exercise of the powers vested on Council by respective Legislations coupled with the need to set and maintain National Standards, these Service providers are required to register and be in good standing with the Council. It is significant to mote that Organizations/Establishments engaging the services of unregistered Environmental Health Service Providers risk having their Offices sealed by the Council's Compliance Enforcement Team, in addition to Criminal prosecution for aiding and abating quackery in the Environmental Health Profession. Furthermore, the Council will not relent in ensuring compliance with the Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by not only Environmental Health Service Providers but at so the Organizations/Establishments (Public and Private) that engage their illegal services. In order to avoid those consequences of breaching the Law, all Public and Private Organizations/Establishments are advised to ensure that they engage the services of only duly certified and licensed Environmental Health Service Providers.
