We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Medical Library Assistant

Location: Abuja

 

Job Purpose

The Medical Library Assistant will support the management and delivery of library and research services within the AMCE.

This role involves assisting the librarian with maintaining the medical library collection, updating and organizing resources, supporting literature searches, and providing research support to healthcare professionals, researchers, and students.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong grasp of digital and physical library systems, medical databases, and terminology, and possess a passion for improving healthcare education and research outcomes through accessible and organized information resources.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Library Operations and Collection Management:

• Assist in managing and maintaining the organization’s medical library collection, including books, journals, digital media, and databases.
• Organize and catalog library materials according to current standards and practices.
• Ensure databases and systems are updated regularly to keep content current and accurate.

Information Access and Support:

• Support medical professionals, researchers, and students in conducting literature searches and using library resources.
• Register the institution on relevant research and educational repositories to expand access to knowledge bases.
• Provide support in organizing and issuing library materials such as books, films, and digital files.

Instruction and Training:

• Conduct training sessions on the effective use of library databases and digital resources.
• Collaborate with the librarian to develop instructional materials and user guides.
• Provide support in evidence-based practice research and educational programming.

Policy and Development:

• Assist in the development and implementation of library policies and procedures.
• Participate in library strategic planning and resource development.
• Stay informed about trends in health information management, medical librarianship, and digital library tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or related field.
• Certification as a hospital or medical librarian is an added advantage.
• Familiarity with health science databases and electronic resource systems.
• Proficient in using digital library systems, CRM tools, and educational platforms.

Experience:

• 2 to 5 years’ progressive experience in a hospital, university, or health sciences library.
• Experience in medical or academic environments with customer service responsibilities.
