STRATEGIES FOR UNIFORM IMPLEMENTATION OF NATIONAL DIPLOMA AND HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND/HND) NURSING PROGRAMME FOR APPROVED COLLEGES OF NURSING SCIENCE IN NIGERIA

In addition to the existing guidelines on implementation of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma (ND/ HND) Nursing programme, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria hereby introduces more strategies for uniform and effective implementation of the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma (ND/HND) Nursing in all approved Colleges of Nursing Sciences in Nigeria.

a) A College of Nursing Sciences is allowed to operate multiple campuses under the college, provided each campus will operate as an independent entity and has its own physical facilities and full complement of human resources.

b) The transfer or exchange of staff from one campus to another is unacceptable. However, a College of Nursing Sciences can have a single Governing Board/Council superintending over many campuses under the college.

c) The admission quota/carrying capacity of students for each campus under the college shall depend on the available human resources and physical facilities.

d) The constitution/appointment of the Governing Board/Council of the college shall be in compliance with the structure approved by the Council.

e) An institution without a governing board shall not be accredited for ND /HND Nursing programme by the regulatory bodies.

f) In line with the Nigeria policy on education, Colleges of Nursing Sciences shall exercise the autonomy to operate regardless of the supervising ministry in the State.

g) A single academic certificate of HND Nursing shall be issued by the College of Nursing Sciences at the end of the programme while the professional registration and licence will be issued by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
