The Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe, has said there are no excuses for closed health centres across the country. Oloriegbe said this in Abuja on Monday during the unveiling of a book, titled, ‘End Malaria.’

The NAN had reported that many health care centres were closed  across the country denying citizens access to good and quality health care.

Oloriegbe said, “There is no excuse for closed health centres across the country. Let me start by saying that health is on the concurrent list. Health centres are under the control of Local Government Areas.

“The Federal Government is also trying to make sure that health care centres are revitalised and that is why we have the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund, states pay their counterpart funds and they have the funds disbursed through the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency.

“No one knows why the centres were closed as the states and LGAs will have to answer to that but one thing is that there is no excuse for the closure of health care centres.”

The author ‘End Malaria,’ Funmilayo Braithwaite, called on the Federal Government to do everything within its power to end Malaria in the country.
