We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Nurse, Surveillance

Job Code: MS02800

Location: Abuja, with frequent visits to field offices

Contract Period: 6 months (With possibility of extension)  

Contract: 208 working hours per month

Level: 6

Main Purpose

  • Ensure completion and prompt reporting of all information and data related to emergencies, surveillanceand preparedness.
  • Maintain active communication and liaison with all relevant internal or external resources for information and data gathering and provide necessary support to the NIMERT team for decision making.

Job Description

  • Implement and maintain an efficient and effective surveillance system that will help to monitor epidemiological trends of relevant epidemic-prone diseases at mission level, throughout Nigeria.
  • Performing surveillance through active and permanent contact with other actors of disease surveillance and notification from local governments and state levels, with focus on areas of MSF operational interest.
  • Manage data systems and ensure accurate, high-quality databases; produce weekly reports and submit to the project medical referent for analyses and decision making.
  • Implement and follow-up the MSF, National, and universal alert and emergency threshold and other protocols for different kinds of scenarios.
  • Actively participate in the capacity building of medical department staff of NIMERT (and/or other projects if needed) targeting primarily those involved directly or indirectly in data management system.
  • Ensure high standards quality information/data collection, communication, archiving, is done in strict compliance with confidentiality and safety as per MSF standard procedures.
  • Actively participate in data interpretation and analysis of surveillance data and provide report, regular weekly & monthly (or daily basic if needed) feedbacks with timeliness and completeness.
  • Collect context information related to emergencies in collaboration with PC support and report to PMR and Project coordinator.  
  • Carry out proper routine systematic alert/medical humanitarian events monitoring and assist in alerts’ verification assessments as requested.
  • Actively participates in the medical activities in case of MSF emergency response intervention.

Information, Technology and Communication:

  • Assist medical staff in the understanding and use of the MSF data tool; and provide capacity building prioritizing “on-spot training approach primarily.
  • Operate as Focal person for GIS, REACH and HMIS of NIMERT medical data.
  • Closely participate with mission HMIS focal point/Mission epidemiologist, and PMR for defining and implementing HMIS hierarchy.
  • May directly liaise with other projects through project PMR (if needed) for disease/alert surveillance; and play a key role in compiling mission AMT information.
  • Participate in drafting project humanitarian actors, and government, federal or local authorities mapping.
  • Report/share all best practices and challenges to the NIMERT coordination.

Requirements

Education:

  • Essential: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Training in public health will be an asset.

Experience:

Essential: two (2) years working experience with MSF or other NGOs

Language:

English and Hausa languages are mandatory; Fulani and Kanuri are recommendable.

Knowledge:

  • Computer literacy.

  • According to MSF National Salary Scale.
