Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Compliance with Nursing Education Reforms Deadline

COMPLIANCE WITH NURSING EDUCATION REFORMS DEADLINE

Please recall the Council’s Circular N&MCN/EDU/CIR/44/VOL.1/62 dated 15th February, 2019 on the above subject. Hospital – based Schools of Basic and Post Basic Nursing programmes were given till end of year 2023 to comply with the following reforms in Nursing education:

a. Have their programmes absorbed / assimilated into universities in order to continue to run Bachelor of Nursing Science Degree Programme.

Or

b. Have their Schools of Nursing and Midwifery upgraded to Colleges of Nursing Sciences in order to commence award of National / Higher National Diploma (ND/HND) Nursing by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Nursing and midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

c. Have all Post Basic Nursing programmes upgraded to Postgraduate programmes and affiliate them with universities for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in relevant nursing specialties.

In the light of the above, the Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria at its 60th General Meeting held in December, 2022 reiterated that compliance with the aforementioned nursing education reforms by the end of 2023 for all nursing training institutions in Nigeria remains sacrosanet.

Please bring the content of this circular to the attention of all concerned and accord it the urgency it deserves.
