Job Title: Pharmacist
Location: DIC Ahoada, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time
Key Responsibilities
- The Pharmacist will manage the pharmaceutical services within the community center, ensuring the availability, proper storage, dispensing, and documentation of HIV-related medications and other essential drugs.
- The Pharmacist will also provide medication counseling, support adherence strategies, and collaborate with the clinical team to improve treatment outcomes among high-risk populations.
- Work closely with clinicians, nurses, case managers, CMT, peer educators, and psychosocial staff to dispense ART, PrEP, PEP, STI medications, and other prescribed drugs according to national guidelines.
- Ensure proper storage, stock rotation, and inventory control of all pharmaceuticals.
- Monitor stock levels and place timely orders to avoid stock-outs or expiries.
- Maintain and update drug registers, dispensing logs, and bin cards.
- Provide one-on-one medication counseling, especially for ART and PrEP clients.
- Educate clients on proper medication use, adherence, side effects, and interactions.
- Support differentiated service delivery models (e.g., multi-month dispensing, community ART refill groups).
- Ensure confidentiality and sensitivity in dealing with vulnerable populations
- Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews for clients with adherence challenges or treatment failure.
- Report adverse drug reactions (ADR) and support pharmacovigilance efforts.
- Train peer educators, outreach workers, and other staff on safe medication practices and ART adherence.
- Provide orientation on pharmacy SOPs and infection control practices.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of pharmacy services.
- Compile and submit pharmacy reports to the M&E team and relevant authorities.
- Contribute to monthly and quarterly program reports and audits.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm or equivalent). Registered with the national pharmacy board.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in HIV-related pharmaceutical services, preferably in a community or public health setting.
- Experience working with high-risk groups is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with national ART guidelines and supply chain systems.
- Proficiency in pharmacy software, Microsoft Office, and health information systems.
